I would love to see a GUI based Addmenu tool or prefs.
The menu system of AmigaOS is a very poweful feature.

Have you tried T.H.E.2 on OS4Depot?

Thats great and everything, but its not apart of the OS and this thread was started by someone who believes it should be.

The OS already has the user editable menu feature, the only "missing" part is the GUI which can currently be fulfilled by the 3rd party program I linked to. IMHO there are many other areas requiring developers' attention before that. I used to use this feature a lot myself back in the days with ToolsDaemon but I stopped using it when I started to use ToolManager and now AmiDock is filling my need quite well.

Huh? I had really a tough time to re-write (or better: to completely re-new) the unified OS3.x/4.x installer script for T.H.E.. So it would be nice to hear what "broken" means and maybe a more precise report would be nice, too. Thank you.

Ah, okay - this looks familiar! I assume you used UnArc to unpack the downloaded lha file? Sadly UnArc seems to have a (long standing) bug if the archive contains at least a drawer with point "." in it. Please use lha or the xadunfile command line utility to unpack the the2 archive. So, UnArc is broken, not the installer script.. ;-)
(If you're curious you might check the difference between the UnArc and xadunfile unpacking by yourself - looks really funny...).

I can confirm that we have this bug in Bugzilla as entry #8202.

Best regards,

would be also good to have the ability to remove menu functions from the main hardcoded ones. I've been toying with ideas to produce a user profile system, I know how to hide all the drives and the whole menu, alter the contextmenu etc, but if you still wanted a menu bar the theres no (right) way to remove say 'execute command' or change its shortcut RAmiga-E
