I continue the topic Cannot change pointer ! here because i can not reply there (I don't have a X1000).
Could somebody please move all those non-X1000 topics out of the X1000 board?

However:

The real problem with prefs/pointer is not that there is no new Iconeditor - the problem is that it is no longer a Prefseditor for the pointer.
Its a Prefseditor for the Fallbackpointer.


What i would like to see is an Update to Prefs/Pointer like this:

• Clicktab with two Pages
• Page 1 "Pointerimages" containing a listbrowser on the left side that let you select the pointertype to change. On the right side a Picture (and File-Dropzone) of the selected image and the text "Drop an 32-Bit PNG-Image with size XxY here to change the Image."
• Page 2 "Fallback Pointer" containing the gadgets of the current Prefseditor.

Other cases of "Prefseditor does not set what the user expected":

• Many things in Prefs/GUI have the same problem since we are using GUI-Skins.
  They are Fallbacksettings for the case that a Screen does not use the Skin, but it is not clearly to see that for the User.
• Prefs/Serial: i bet that nobody knows where this settings are used...
• Prefs/Picasso96Mode just says "Could not find any modes!".
  It could say "Please use Prefs/ScreenMode. If that does not work for you follow these steps to reactivate P96Mode...".
  Or (even better) it could be integrated in Prefs/ScreenMode as "Legacy P96"-Tab, with a nice button to reactivate it if needed.

Or delete the P96Mode icon, and add a button or an advanced menu option in Screenmode prefs to launch it.

I have been experimenting with pointers today. The following is probably old information for anyone in the know, but might help some of the rest of us.

There are some pointer files in Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys ...
def_pointer is the icon for the normal pointer ... default is a small arrow
def_busypointer is the icon for the busypointer ... default is a stopwatch

If either one of these files exist, they will override the settings choosen in Pointer preferences.

If def_pointer is not found, then pointer.prefs can take control of the normal pointer.
If def_busypointer is not found, then pointer.prefs can take control of the busypointer.

It is possible to have def_pointer but no def_busypointer or visa versa. Pointer.prefs settings contol the missing icon.

You can change one or both icons by replacing the files with your own choices, or you can rename the existing files to something like zzzdef_pointer and zzzdef_busypointer and use Pointer preferences to define your own pointers.

I have chosen to use the old style AmigaOS large arrow pointer and ZZ busypointer.
