I have searched the forums here for mentions of FinalWriter and see that there is only very limited info, mostly in the Screen Dragging thread. I want to install FinalWriter on my X1000 and Update 5 and I found an Amiga Wiki site (http://www.amigawiki.com/cgi-bin/wiki.p ... ter_on_OS4) that has a "How To" for FinalWriter on OS4, which states that MemPatch is required to run FinalWriter on OS4.

But, this "How To" predates OS4.1.5 and appears to have been written on or before June of 2009, so I am here asking if this "How To" Wiki article is still accurate, or was it ever accurate, and do I need to download and install, or set up this MemPatch first, before I even try to install, or use FinalWriter on my X1000 w/OS4.1.5?

If I recall correctly, MemPatch was a temporary "fix" for AmigaOS 4.0 PreRelease Final Update (Dec 2006).

It was not required for any version of OS4 before or since.

The only trick is to delete the Final Writer 97 prefs file and redo prefs on first use after install.

I do not have a floppy disk drive on my MicroA1 system, so I transferred my existing Final Writer 97 drawer from my A2000HD hard drive to my MicroA1 hard drive. Then I deleted the FW.Prefs file and re-established new prefs on first launch of the Final Writer 97 program.

I used AmigaExplorer to transfer Final Writer 97 and some other programs from my A2000HD to a pc where I was able to burn a CD-R disc.

Do you have some old documents in Final Writer format you wish to open? If you want a word processor for Amiga OS 4.x, how about trying Cinnamon Writer?
