I have read previous reports that USB joysticks have too much lag time in them for playing some games on OS4.x, so I am wondering if I should purchase the Competition Pro USB joystick from AmigaKit's online store, or if I should just use a USB to 9-pin adapter to connect any of my Amiga joysticks to my X1000 for playing games?

Does anyone have experience with both this particular USB joystick (the Competition Pro USB joystick currently being sold at AmigaKit) and any Amiga 9-pin joystick with a USB to 9-pin adapter?

I am thinking of trying out some new games on my X1000 in the near future, so I will need a joystick for some of them that are not keyboard, or mouse controlled.

There is no problem per-se with USB joysticks, but rather that some models supposedly have a miniscule lag (and others do not).

Some people allege the Competition Pro USB joystick (as sold by AmigaKit) suffers from this lag, but I never noticed any (but I am not a hard-core gamer either). If you need pixel-perfect timing for some super-hard platform game then perhaps you might notice something.

The problem with USB joysticks (and USB joystick adaptors) is that not all of them work well (or at all) with AmigaInput. The aforementioned Competition Pro USB joystick *does* work fine. So if you buy something else, then be prepared that it may not work.

Whatever you buy, I recommend following the instructions about configuring & using AmigaInput with joysticks that I wrote in RunInUAE's manual. There are some quirks & not-so-obvious things you need to do.

I guess the complaints I read several months ago were slightly exaggerated. After reading those complaints, I sold my Competition Pro USB joystick that I had won as a door prize at one of the past AmiWest Shows. I guess I should have held on to it.

I might order a replacement USB joystick from AmigaKit, or wait to see if they bring any of them to the AmiWest Show and buy it from them during the show. Then I can compare it's performance with that of one of my favorite Amiga 9pin joysticks connected to my X1000 through a 9pin to USB adapter.

I' not really a gamer either, but as ChrisH said, the Competition Pro USB joystick works fine on the A1-X1000.

Thanks for confirming that Trevor, but since neither you, nor I, are much of game players, I would really like to have it confirmed by someone who states that they play dozens, or hundreds of games on their X1000 while running OS4.1.5 and use a Competition Pro joystick all the time with zero complaints.

People like you and I who play just a couple of games, once in a while, are not the best judges of a joystick working correctly, or NOT.

Not trying to give you a hard time, but I think you know what I mean. You don't go to a Chinese restaurant to as how to make the best Pizza in the world. Right?
