PCI in PPC hardware

I had to find a 3.3v sound card for my SAM Flex which wasn't easy. Are all current OS4 PPC systems PCI 3.3v only?

Only the Sam range are 3.3 only.

As soundcards, you can use some Soundblaster Live! 5.1, some M-AUDIO cards and the ESI Juli@ for exemple.

Silicon Image SATA and PATA PCI adapters, Radeon 9250, Realtek 8169, TV Card based on Conexant Cx2388 are 3.3 compatible. I'm sure other usefull and OS4 compatible cards exists.

Which sound card are you using?

I'm using an SBLive 5.1 in my SAM right now. It doesn't work in the bottom PCI slot but does work in another. I was looking for another card based on a different sound chip that works with OS4 but most end up being 5v type. I suspected that the A1 & µA1 could use 5v but was wondering about the X1000. I plan on ordering an X1000 from the next batch and would like to have cards that work in it too. Is the X1000 PCI 3.3v, 5v or both? Does anyone know what type of sound card is being included with the X1000?

I'm going to add me to your thread asking the same question (not much info about the First Contact systems can be found anymore - apart from the regular ad info - but maybe it's just me not looking hard enough?)

I'd also like to know what gfx card will be in it and would a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 be supported (probably best suited for the AmigaKit crew)

Thank you and sorry for kind of hijacking your thread :-)

The X1000 supports 3.3 and 5 volts cards.

I think It's currently shipped with a CMI8738 Sound Card but your soundblaster can be used in the X1000 too.

Raziel, It will be a Radeon HD 4650, 4850 is supported by the driver but you'd better check HDRLab website to be sure.

I have good experiences with the ESI Juli@. I have one in my Sam460ex (3.3V) and one in my X1000 (5V). The card supports either voltage.

Best regards,

Niels

My SB Live is a used card that I got for $8 on Ebay. It works but causes spontaneous system reboots if it is not seated very carefully. It sounds really good when it's seated properly and made me realize that the builtin sound of my SAM and µA1 isn't that great (noise in my SAM and stereo channel balance in my µA1). All the CMI8728 cards I've found are 5v and won't work in my SAM. It looks like the ESI Juli@ is still available new so I'm going to check into one of those for my X1000 (if we get a second run). If I can't get an X1000 I can at least use it in my SAM if it's dual voltage. Thanks to everyone for the info.

I will do that, thank you very much

I got a working Sapphire HD 4850 out from a broken PC and it works like a charm in my test monkey here, so i thought i will keep that baby for when (if) my Second Batch X1000 arrive...yes, i know, there hasn't been official pre-ordering yet, i'm just hoping to be on the list :-)

...hear that, AmigaKit?
Just write me a mail and i send you the money :-D

Hum...

It seems I gave you incomplete information about PCI, the fact is the X1000 have a pair of PCI slots suitable for 5V or universal cards, not 3.3v only cards.

So you're saying that if I get 3.3v (only) cards for my SAM, they won't work in the X1000. That's what I was trying to clarify. Apparently, universal cards are the way to go.
