I downloaded rc2 to fienix then checked with adelie. Tried rebooting to fienix several times because it didn't seem to be working there either, but that was due to sharply advanced senility: I had utterly forgotten that I had to change (editenv) the bootfiles, so I kept getting rc6 in 6.12. Fixed that, now all OK
