Could someone fill me in: is Xorg.conf required if you have an SI GPU? I don't have an SI card to test so I have no experience with this. What are the parameters that the Xorg.conf needs in order to boot?
-Casey
Hi Casey,
This is the Xorg that makes the SI graphicscard users able to boot up fienix.
The fbdev is the trick...as there are no radeon drivers that support the SI cards on the PPC platform.

Thanks for the information! When I get around to updating the Fienix website I'll include this somewhere.

@kilauebart
To resize you partitions i had to compile a later version of the resize tools. Here the link
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C6znBx ... sp=sharing
Gparted will assume the executables needed are in the SBIN folder if i remember correct.
The black screen after the login has to do with compton. You must remove this for now.
OK, thank you. It looks like I've got it back, at least temporarily again, and this time no message about shortage of space. I replaced e2fsck and resize out of all that material.
I had removed compton a couple of days ago, before my first apparent success at booting fienix. I am somewhat dismayed to find I had to do it again.

Website updates, finally.
Check it out!
Includes the new images. Only minor changes but if you want to test it for me that would be cool.
-Changed default Window Manager back to Marco Adaptive
-Uses newest stable 5.5 kernel
-Includes "Fienix-GPU-Bandage" - see the second troubleshooting topic
here. I made this to try to make an easy way for people with GPUs that need fbdev. Idk, let me know what you think please.
I also simplified instructions. A lot. I think it looked too intimidating for new users.

You're not missing any repositories. I have to rebuild several applications because they depend on old library versions. The screenshots are still old.

Bizarre frustrating problem. Downloaded the 0426 version of soar.
fienix-soar_3.0-20200426.img.tar.gz 2.5 GB
Extracted the .img file
fienix-soar_3.0-20200426.img 5.2 GB
It has been my so-far always successful practice to skip the USB part of the fienix install instructions and just copy the image to a disk partition that has been reformatted ext4.
Code: Select all
bart@X5000:~$ sudo dd if=Downloads/fienix-soar_3.0-20200426.img of=/dev/sda6
[sudo] password for bart:
10240000+0 records in
10240000+0 records out
5242880000 bytes (5.2 GB, 4.9 GiB) copied, 341.784 s, 15.3 MB/s
This time when I refresh the partition with GParted, I get
Code: Select all
/dev/sda6 (!)|[black] unknown | | |97.39 GiB | ---| ---|
/dev/sda7 |[blue-gray] ext4| |FIENIX|100.95GiB | 12.14GiB| 88.81GiB|
where sda7 is a working version of the earlier soar.
Any hints on where I should look for clues to the problem? If the download was faulty, would extraction work anyway?

This is a multi-partition disk image. Please copy it first to a USB disk. After that you can copy the "FIENIX-DISK" partition to a partition on your hard disk.
