Downloading to install and report shortly.

Usually my X5000 boots on HDMI and them moves to the Firepro under DVi. Under kernel 4.21 it boots to my Radeon SI card with no output from the Firepro at all.

Wiill update in a few minutes.

Hi Ace,

I don't see any differences except [ 41.812184] [drm:.radeon_dvi_detect] *ERROR* HDMI-A-1: probed a monitor but no|invalid EDID but the kernel 4.20 works for you without any problems. Could you please remove the 7750 and test the alpha1 again?

Thanks,
Christian

I triedd removing the SI card but I do not get any output at all from the Firepro. Reverted back to 4.20 and all is well again. Sorry.

Hi Ace,

Sorry because of this issue. I will compile a test kernel without the latest DRM updates for testing. I need error messages or something like that for reporting this issue to the kernel developers.

Cheers,
Christian

Hi All,

I released the alpha2 and the alpha3 of kernel 4.21 for testing today.

New (alpha2):
New (alpha3):
  • X1000: The kernel developers integrated Darren's Nemo patches to the official kernel source code so we don't need the Nemo patch anymore.
  • X5000: New Cyrus patch 4.21-1
  • PowerPC updates 4.21-1
New (alpha2+3):

Please test them.

Thanks,
Christian

Alpha3 up and running. Would be great if we somehow could find a way to get the onboard DPAA ethernet working. (As the Terminal screenshot shows,...it does get probed as ETH0 and ETH1 but still not usable :-( )

Thanks for taking the effort to recompile a version without DRM. Good news, it boots to my Firepro and Compiz works. So indeed it seems the new DRM changes are the source of the issue. It appears there are some significant changes for Southern Island cards included in 4.21 but Mesa 19 is required. However, it doesn't appear that the changes include 3d as yet.

Thanks again.

Hi Skateman,
Hi Ace,

Thanks a lot for testing the alphas!

@Ace
The problem is, that we don’t have any error messages or something like that for reporting this issue to the kernel developers. Could you please look in the Xorg log files?
If a problem occurs, view the log stored in either /var/log/ or, for the rootless X default since v1.16, in ~/.local/share/xorg/. GDM users should check the systemd journal. [4]

The logfiles are of the form Xorg.n.log with n being the display number. For a single user machine with default configuration the applicable log is frequently Xorg.0.log, but otherwise it may vary. To make sure to pick the right file it may help to look at the timestamp of the X server session start and from which console it was started.
Thanks,
Christian

Attached are the logs from xorg. Log 1 is the second alpha without DRM, Log 0 is for Alpha 3 (noting I didn't load kernel modules). Sorry can't figure how to attach separately as files as whatever extension I use is rejected and they are too large to copy and paste.
