Some current notes for the Sam installers :
The Installation needs to be on the first hard drive.
It will not work on any secondary ones.

Parthenope is the supported boot loader. included on the Sam installer ISO's.(Parthenope is the older version and u2lb is the newer version).usage u2lb for Sam460ex machines and parthenope for Sam440ep machines
This you have to manually install via AmigaOS 4.1 .
Your AmigaOS boot partition must be SFS/00 to boot using Parthenope

The current installers are net installers so no need to remove the Sam boot CD during the installation.
Once the installer is booted the required Linux files are downloaded via your internet connection .

All the Installers will set up the bootstrap ( kernel, menu.lst files and modules etc) on the Linux side properly once the space used for the installation is at the end of the hard drive. This is automatic so no manual command sequence needed.
So leave at least 20Gb of free un partitioned space at the end of the hard drive.

The linux side partitioning is done by the installers also so no need to create the linux partitions from AmigaOS .
Do not leave any additional area in front of this free space un partitioned or the bootstrap installers will not have the correct partition for the bootstrap setup.
So if you want to keep some space for future partitions then create an empty partition in front of the free space.
You may also want to create a small bootable SFS/00 partition of about 2Gb for emergency linux booting in case you have to make changes your current partitions
after you install linux .

Select eth0 for the network interface when prompted for that.

With linux partitioning you get a warning about the partitioner not knowing about the partition type. select yes to continue.
If requested to unmount the hard drive during the installation then select the yes option
Select option use largest continuous hard drive space for the installation.

Thanks for detailed gude. I am preparing my SAM460 for Linux and AOS4 so it comes in proper time.

Again, I need good Uboot manual for SAM460ex, I propose Fedora 20.1 MATE PPC 32/64 as next to do magic (or XFCE/LXDE one?)

I wish all Amigans do your level of hardwork and magic!

Is it possible to insert an emergency bootstrap and rootfs partitions between existing partitions even when MediaToolbox refuses to actively create a new partition in the space set aside ?

Select your empty space in Media toolbox and click on Add partition.
For the Emergency boot partition add 87,363 to the Lower cyl value and type the result into the Higher cyl box.
You can do the same thing for the extra rootfs partition but using a higher number eg 835,204 for a 19GB partition.
Whatever free space is left will be used for Linux by the Linux installer

The only issue I currently have is MediaToolbox is currently refusing to create a new partition *between* two existing partitions,

I am currently considering building a Linux bootstrap USB stick but even with this I would require at least one partition on the primary HDD for a rootfs which leads me back to having a gap between two existing partitions that I want to reuse for Linux.

Has anyone else run into MediaToolbox permitting deletions but refusing to create new partitions?
Can it not insert partitions when modifying the RDB?

As I was directed to retry the "add" button within MediaToolbox I will record a video and link that here.

Then if anyone can explain the refusal to create a new partition or give me an alternative option?
