I agree with you Chris. The card is not faulty, it just has a horribly noisy fan.
This would not be an issue if the OS could exert some control over the fan speeds. As it stands, my X1000 is now known as the noisy microwave by my wife! :(

Its wierd, I just listen past all the stuff with fans now.
So your wife sending back the XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii, they are even noisier, ;).

Lol, the xbox aint an issue to her as it doesn't take up any of my time... She's a bit resentful of the Amiga as it often takes over my day!

@Thread:
Finally found what could be the solution for the CPU Fan noise:

http://www.ibertronica.es/refrigeracion ... lic-u.html

And my own choice of fan, there might be others with better noise/airflow but got this one because of visual impact, and better cooling for the summer:

http://www.ibertronica.es/refrigeracion ... er-80.html
This kit adds a total weight of around 80g to the heatsink, i don't think its much but it would be safer if someone could give safe values for a heatsink/fan.

others may prefer more silent fans, i found that there are a few that may give plenty CFM at a rather low dB levels.

Still need to receive it and check if it fits, but i think there shouldn't be a problem.

Its a muticomp MC19624 12v Fan, 19CFM, 28dBA noise. The high air flow explaines the noise level. You can put a quieter fan in, but most won't push 19CFM, so cpu temps could go up a little, depending on how well the heatsink is working.

This one gives 25CFM at 10dBA, so it should be almost hearable.

Now that i think about it, i should have choosen one with white fan blades, should look way cooler with the red motherboard.
There is also a 80-120mm fan adapter if one would like to stack both adapters to fit a 120mm fan and lower even more the noise ratio, but that added weight may be stressful for the CPU.

I changed the psu fan to Fractal design 60mm R2 fan. It says 17db but i didnt hear any difference as my system was still noisy. Discovered the most noisy was the Radeon HD 6450 card's fan. So i got my self a modded Radeon HD6850 with Artic Accelero Twin Turbo PRO fan/heatsink. It got bigger heatsink and fans but is sooo silent :D It made alot of difference.

However i wasnt totally fine with the noise. So i put the potentionmeter that comes with the board and connected the cpu fan to it and lowered the fan speed. Now its really great. Only thing i hear now is a little odd but NOT high pictch sound from the PSU fan. But it so low its not disturbing so im fine for now. Going from hairblower to ambient :)

Thread revisited.

With the code shared recently by Thomas Frieden, i've revisited this thread to see if cooling went to a better level, both in noise and temperature.Guess what? it doesn't.

With a 80->60 Fan adapter using a supposedly quieter fan with better airflow, the temperature went 6 degrees higher than with the standard cooling.Might be that i finally used an old fan i had lying around, might buy a better one to see if still true.
