3.17-rc5 Kernels

i get this error message when i try to boot xubuntu on sam460 after installing from lubuntu 14.10 netinstall ISO.
"Uknown return code from secondary bootloader."

You need to have the Parthenope Bootloader installed on your Hard drive to boot Linux.
The version for the Sam460ex is the ub2lb file on the Installer CD.
This requires your AmigaOS 4.1boot partition to be SSF/00 or FFS2 .
Also you need the space to install Linux to be unallocated space at the end of the harddrive for the bootstrap setup to work
automatically.
Using Meadia toolbox for the AmigaOS 4.1 System drawer
The first image shows the installed boot loader
The second image show the unallocated space in grey at the end of the harddrive .

Sorry i should have been more specific.

I have the Parthenope Bootloader installed with both amigaos 4.1 and linux. amigaos boots just fine but i get that error message when i try too boot in to linux.
i have made the partition acordingly
1 Swap partition 3.7 gb
1 ext3 partition 90 gb
1 unallocated space bigger than 20 bg at the end.

the installer didnt work automatically at the end failing to launch sam460.sh so i cp the requierd files manualy trough a terminal and made a menu.lst for the linux like this.
kernel /boot/uImage root=/dev/sda1 video=1024x768 vga=normal fb=false
dtb /boot/canyonlands.dtb

The installation procedure is just to leave the free space at the end of the drive .The installer partitions it after prompting you
so you should not make any Linux Partitions before using the installer .You select "use largest contiguous free space option"
3 Partitions are created from that unallocated space. an ext2 ,an ext4 and a swap.
the ext2 is the boot partition so this is why the installer would have failed the sam460ex_install .sh script if you tried to use the partitions that you created and could not find the expected ext2 boot partition .

I cannot test the Sam460ex version of the installer myself at the moment but I think that it is working ok from this post

this time i made partitions using "use largest contiguous free space option"
and the sam460ex_install .sh script worked just fine this time, however the installer failed in the select and install software part and
after installing parthenope (i tried both version 0.93 and 0.91)
i dont get eighter the amigaos or the linux boot option.
when i istall slb_v2 i get the amigaos back and it boots perfectly.
seems like im the only one having trouble installing linux on my sam460.
i have a radeon hd77xx could that have something to do with the fails ?

This one fails here too, black screen on RadeonHD output.

kernel 3.16.2 no problems.

Do I need some extra options/arguments in menu.lst (kernel blah blah extra_option=on blah blah)?

Did your try with previous ISOs (http://www.supertuxkart-amiga.de/amiga/ ... #downloads)?

When you say '.. installer failed in the select and install software..' what option did you try, 'Lubuntu minimal desktop' works fine and 'Lubuntu desktop' too IIRC.

Here it works fine installation Lubuntu 14.10 (kernel 13.6.2) ISO

MAybe you can take a look here (it's a link to my website http://jabirulo.site90.com/sam460ex/) have to update some links, and so to check.

Which version of Parthenope did you install before? The first installed version worked well because OS4.1 booted fine. On which partition are the menu.lst and the kernels?

1. Reboot your Sam440ep Flex and select Amiga OS4.1 Update 6 in the boot menu
2. On OS4.1 download the kernel 3.16 again
3. Unpack the kernel package
4. Copy the kernel cuImage-3.16.0 to the boot drawer on the Amiga partition where the file menu.lst is located
5. Add a boot entry to the menu.lst

   Code: Select all

   default 0
   delay 10
   title Lubuntu 14.10 Kernel 3.16
   kernel /boot/cuImage-3.16.0 root=/dev/sdb1
