If you have an older Ubuntu like 16.04, please also test the ABIv2 kernel with it.
Hi. So I've been doing some testing. I've tested 6.4, 6.5 and 6.14 AB2 with Debian 64 and all boot successfully. So looking good there.

I meant to test Fienix but it must have got too late as I only copied the modules in. However, I tested Xenial and MATE Zesty. Xenial failed with 6.14, as I expected, with a libprce error again. But it booted fine on Zesty. I'm not sure what's up with my Xenial, as that's codename for 16.04, which works for musa. My packages might not be fully updated.

In the meantime I've also managed to get desktop working on my Debian 64 install. I needed to get all the desktop packages installed. It's been stable with no apt crashes nor any from mktemp, dpkg or systemd. However, running tasksel to install desktop components still ends in fail. Nothing in dmesg. I suspect, unconfirmed, it's a package conflict as some desktop packages refuse to install from lots of packages that aren't going to be installed. Or however apt puts it.

I have some more results. I had tested Fienix but forgot as it stalled on boot and I gave up for the night. I retested it and it got up to running init then it stops. I needed serial for more info and it's the same as what is happening to my Xenial. This is with final kernel 6.14.0.

Code: Select all

Run /init as init process
Loading, please wait...
/lib/systemd/systemd-udevd: error while loading shared libraries: libpcre.so.3: cannot o
pen shared object file: No such file or directory
Begin: Loading essential drivers ... done.
Begin: Running /scripts/init-premount ... done.
Begin: Mounting root file system ... Begin: Running /scripts/local-top ... done.
Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount ... done.
I need to update some results as I retested MATE Zesty and it also broke on boot with final kernel 6.14.0. Same problem as above. I may have made a mistake about kernel 6.14 RC7 ABIv2. working. Now all my Ubuntu systems are getting stuck on this libpcre. It's some perl library and some how they are all missing it.

My new Debian 64 is mixed results. It boots fine with final kernel 6.14.0. but it clearly has issues making it unusable. Likely because of using unstable, some things just cannot be installed, and today dpkg gave me some LD_LIBRARY error. Synaptic is in menu but synaptic cannot be installed and Firefox doesn't load at all. But the worse is this flood of messages in dmesg:

Code: Select all

radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 3 stalled for more than 884285msec
radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU lockup (current fence id 0x0000000000000022 last fence id 0x000
000000000014d on ring 3)
radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 884038msec
radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU lockup (current fence id 0x0000000000000003 last fence id 0x000

radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 3 stalled for more than 884789msec

radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 884542msec
radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU lockup (current fence id 0x0000000000000003 last fence id 0x000

I cannot use a terminal with that interrupting. Honestly I wonder why they don't clean this stuff up. How is anyone supposed to log into a terminal and use a system that constantly overwrites you? Every VT is filled with it! :!:

Another thing is the graphics in xorg didn't work and needed an fbdev config. What's strange is it clearly installed one for setting up fbdev as I found it in there. But after fully installing a desktop it deleted it! I don't know what was going on there. :?:

Ubuntu 16.04 Boot
Ubuntu remix Boot
Fienix Boot
Debian 64 trixie Boot
Debian 32 trixie Boot
Chimera 32 Boot
Chimera 64 Boot
Void Boot
Adeline 32 Boot
Musa,

Do you also have issues with the final kernel 6.14.0 and your installed systems?

Maybe the PCRE library isn’t compatible with ABIv2 kernels.

Thanks,
Christian

Hi
No there is no problem with boot , and no problem with login , and there is no problem with normal programs as terminal ,updates , hinfo.and networking . I'm not saying there aren't any problems, but I don't see any during normal use of my systems.
sorry to hear hypex is having problems with 6.14 and these systems , but I don't have any.
Have a nice day

OK, good to know. I will not revert to ABIv1 Linux kernels for the X1000. Thanks for clarifying.
