Hi Kilaueabart,
Could you please test the 4.9 alpha kernels?
I cross compiled them and I don't know if these boot.
This seemed a more appropriate place to reply to your request, Christian.
I am using MATE 16.04.1 with the 4.9 alpha. I've been through many of my usual activites, and I see no difference from 4.31. What should I do to really TEST it?

Here I am on Yakety, 16.10. And a correction to "I see no difference from 4.31." Two differences, on both MATEs. One is the lack of boot messages, while I do get a pair of penguins at that point. Is that good or bad?
I'm not sure about the splash screen. At least I haven't noticed any difference in that regard. Maybe I don't know what a splash screen is?
An oddity is that when I run Firefox, my SCIM thing to switch keyboards with, etc., comes up right above the screen chooser and trash can in the lower right.

OK, you don't see any boot messages but it boots to the login screen. Is that right? Have you already tested the alpha6?
Many thanks for testing.

Now I have, at least to see if it boots. I'm not sure if it is different from alpha5. After the penguins I got the screen with the logo and the the little circles under it, then the login screen.
I'm still not sure how to really test.

Hi Kilaueabart,
Thanks a million for testing the alpha6. It's OK for me if you test the booting of the kernel. Of course you can test more if you like. For example the P.A. Semi Ethernet or 3D acceleration etc.
@All
I released the
alpha7 for testing today.
New:
Download:
vmlinux-4.9-alpha7-AmigaONE_X1000.tar.gz
Please test the
alpha7 because of the new really big DRM update.
Thanks in advance,
Christian

When I boot MATE 16.04.1 with Alpha 7, P.A. Semi Ethernet seems to be what is running (the icon with the waves). It tends to disconnect itself and leave me the Realtek, up-and-down arrow, thing, but I can get it back for a short while by clicking on "Auto Ethernet."
I wonder if google will give me adequate hints on how to test 3D acceleration. I'll give it a shot.
OK, I found out about the glxgears command, and it shows three gears turning in a small window, if that means anything.
