Hi Christian,

Tumbleweed DVD install.
During GUI Installer, click Create Partition Setup ensure that Partition-based Proposall is ticked. File System for root partition Ext4. Untick Propose Separate Home Partition then hit OK.
Suse will create:
boot/dev/sdb1 ext4 (400 MB)
root/dev/sdb2 ext4 (931 GB)
sdc5 Swap (due to Swap created by Ubuntu 12.04)
Booting not possible with "quiet ro splash" I have to "setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sdb2 [Enter] Verbose stops at these last three lines.
sh: cannot set terminal process group
sh: no job control in this shell
sh-4.3# _
As you can tell, this is where I shutdown and go outside for some air and a cigarette I'm at a stopping point. I do not know how to get past this part.

Point: Testing with the R7 250X proving to be a challenge but would like to see it happen.
Counterpoint: Would be very easy to put the 6670 back in and call it good.

Seems like I'm moving forward by a millimeter!

Would the XFX 6670 make a big difference here? I am left to assume that the modified CFE booting statement I have to use just to boot the Kernel may be the issue. No Splash screen - no go. What are your thoughts?

From what I have read 13.2 is at this time built for power5 to power8 processors. 13.1 is for P4/G5. Also I believe
gcc5.3 is used for the 13.2 distro and even if you get it installed there may be problems getting things to work.

It's new, perhaps a P4 product will be along in awhile.

Hi all,

On a more positive note. During the OpensuSe Tumbleweed installation, the WIFI (Prism2) card I bought from AmigaKit was discovered along with PA Semi Ethernet and the Realtec 8139. During boot in Verbose, it was trying to configure Realtec, however, I did not have it connected. The Configuration screen indicated that. The installation also discovered ATI and loaded sb600 drivers (I'm connected to HDMI on R7 250X). Closing, I hope this report helps in some way for development purposes and makes this experience with Tumbleweed on my X1000 a successful failure.

Yes, sure but it takes some time because of uploading the image.

Hi all,

I created with dd an img of my openSUSE Tumbleweed PPC64 installation today.

Be aware, that openSUSE is experimental and isn't supported. openSUSE for the X1000 is alpha software! It's only for testing and tinkering!

Download: openSUSE_Tumbleweed_20160516_ppc64.img.tar.gz

Please note: There isn't a display manager available. You have to login via the login shell. If you don't get a login shell after booting Tumbleweed then switch to another terminal with CTRL + ALT + F key. For example CTRL + ALT + F1. You can start the Xfce Desktop Environment with startx.

Users:

root (password "amigaone")
amigaone (password "amigaone")
