The kernel development is very fast. It means we have to test new kernels to modify our Nemo patch. New kernels provide support for new hardware and security fixes. I have just now booted Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with kernel 4.1 to see if I could, but I don't imagine that counts as testing. I'm unaware of any difference from kernel 4.0, or even 3.14 for that matter...
