Really?

I use Linux for productivity and full use of X1000
Yes really. But it must be because I'm not productive ;)

I learn to install, configure, and work with monitoring distributions like OMD. I have compiled the Open Monitoring Distribution 1.10 for our A1-X1000. With OMD you can monitor and check a lot of networks and servers.

Download: omd-bin-1.10-ubuntu_12.04.4.powerpc.tar.gz
Check_MK_A1-X1000.jpg
Installation instructions
  1. Code: Select all

    sudo su
  2. Code: Select all

    cd /
  3. Code: Select all

    tar zxvf omd-bin-1.10-ubuntu_12.04.4.powerpc.tar.gz
  4. Code: Select all

    groupadd omd
  5. Code: Select all

    omd setup
  6. Code: Select all

    apt-get install apache2-mpm-prefork
  7. Code: Select all

    a2enmod proxy_http
  8. Code: Select all

    chmod u+s /opt/omd/versions/1.10/lib/nagios/plugins/check_icmp
  9. Code: Select all

    omd create xenosite
  10. Code: Select all

    omd start xenosite

I use Linux, Debian and Mint, to communicate and play with a BeagleBoard and some
BASICstamp modules. I also spend some time tweaking my own kernels.

:)

What do you mean with tweaking your own kernels? Do you tweak the A1-X1000 kernels? If yes then I'm very interested about your tweaked A1-X1000 kernels.

Mostly adding drivers for serial ports, parallel ports, stripping out all the sound and video cards I don't require, moving some things to modules, adding modules, stuff like that. Things AFAIK nobody else would need or even care about.

Nothing like the great work you do for the community.

I use it to fill in the gaps in office related programs that OS4.1 lacks at present and to provide an ongoing learning experience in the Unix/Linux system side of things (my first programming class was in 1974 and minimal exposure to Unix was around 1979).

Thanks a lot for your answer!

I use it very occasionally, so far, almost always because I need Firefox to properly access web material that Odyssey and Timberwolf can't handle.

I use it as a backup for certain stuff the amigaos doesn't do perfectly right, like making sure a video runs like it should before I copy it to the streamer (like having Ac3/dts sound), running firefox so I could browse all of my bookmarks in english and hebrew. The ability to watch all videos on youtube with viewtube + minitube, checking the 3D ability of the X1000 + Radeon HD card and finally using thunderbird to view rss feeds combined with my mail. Perhaps one other thing is actually learning more about computers as I'm just discovering this os.

"The ability to watch all videos on youtube with viewtube + minitube"

Just for information, AmigaOS can do that too, and very well, thanks to Qt, SMTube and LiveForIt MPlayer.

Xeno74, sorry for the off topic
