textclip-handler documentation missing

Post by xenic »

At some point the texclip-handler documentation was removed from the SDK or OS4 install. I recovered the doc from an older release for my own use but the doc needs to be added to the OS4 documentation. I found the information very useful and was able to use it as the basis for a simple "clip" logger on my system. I mentioned this at another Amiga site when I noticed it missing which was before these forums were started. Please add "textclip-handler.doc" back into the OS4 documentation for the next release.

It's in the SDK:Documentation/Autodocs/textclip-handler.doc, along with .../textclip.doc.

Is that what you want?

It was probably removed from the user docs because it's a programmer's document (not a user document).

If it's in your SDK it's because you kept it from a previous SDK or you have a newer SDK than is publicly available. Look in the original SDK 53.20 installation if you have the original archive or get it from the Hyperion WEB site and check what is in the installation. At some point the handler docs from the SDK were moved to the user documentation but texclip-handler.doc was left out. It's not in SDK 53.20 and not in the user docs. Unlike the other handler docs, it is more of a programming doc than a user doc but it contains some vital information about accessing the TEXTCLIP: AmigaDOS device in that it tells you to specify a unit number and format i.e. TEXTCLIP:[unit][/format]. A shorter textclip-handler.doc could be included with the user docs so people know what to do with TEXTCLIP: because the packet types are of little use to the normal user. However, the complete doc could be of use to programmers and should be put back into the SDK.

I think xenic is right. I can see textclip.library documentation but nothing about textclip-handler in either the SDK or the OS4 install.

Yes, you're right, I can see from the original SDK-53.20. My apologies.

I'll write a request to have it reinstated.

Edit: BZ #7585.
