Re: New kernels
Thanks! Seems to work ok with MintPPC on X5000.
I do not know whether this is anyhow related to kernels, but there has appeared during at least the last 2 years a strange problem with my Soundblaster Live! card. When I use it with VLC, the soundcard often stops to play the soundtrack and instead sends a continuous, very high tone to the speakers! I have noticed this with two cards, and I doubt both of them could suddenly become defective.
Has anyone else experienced the same issue? The only way out seems to be to reboot. BTW, with AmigaOS I have never had such issue, it is present only with Linux.

Great! Thanks a lot for testing!
I sometimes have the same issue, but it happens very rarely.Roland wrote: Sun Feb 01, 2026 7:43 pm I do not know whether this is anyhow related to kernels, but there has appeared during at least the last 2 years a strange problem with my Soundblaster Live! card. Which is the last kernel without this issue?
Do you have the same issue with the stable long-term kernel 5.10.247?

I cannot anymore remember exactly, but I think I never had it with 5.10.xxx kernels.

I have to test!

Re: New kernels
I have now done some testing... I was not able repeat the sound problem with 5.10.247, but there appeared a more serious issue. If I do some streaming from net with VLC, after about a half an hour the stream suddenly stops and the picture starts to stutter. The whole system freezes simultaniously, and I have to press the reset button to get out.
During bootup, there always appears for a short time a screen which seems to be corrupted.
I have never seen those issues with 6.12.
This reminds me the problmes I had earlier with a Radeon HD 5450 and kernels 5.10 and 5.12. (viewtopic.php?t=4673)
Not identical but obviously in both cases somehow related to the Raden board. I am now using a Radeon HD 6450.

Re: New kernels
Oh dear. Good to know. It seems the kernel 5.10 series isn’t perfect.Roland wrote: Tue Feb 03, 2026 10:07 am I have now done some testing...
