On that note, alpha 5 continues the trend, also booting up well on Mate and Mint. 8-)
Great! :-) Thanks a lot for testing! :-)

Hi All,

I have released the alpha6 of kernel 6.18.

Unfortunately, there are PCI issues so the kernel has boot problems.

Further information: Boot problems after the pci-v6.18-changes #17

I reported this issue to the kernel developers yesterday.

Link: [PPC] Boot problems after the pci-v6.18-changes -- Linux PCI subsystem development

I happened to check and found it there before it was announced. :-)

Is this an X5000 thing? I noticed an e5500 patch. The X1000 alpha 6 I'm testing right now (on MATE and Mint) runs nice and stable as I type.

I have noticed these messages appeared. One about an executable stack. Another about EMI.

Code: Select all

[ 16.198025] process '/bin/fstype' started with executable stack
[ 97.740469] usb usb1-port1: disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling...
[/code

Strange. I have the PCI issue on my X1000 too.

Really? That is strange. Usually my X1000 shows up with some strange problem at times. Well, if it helps I can grab a boot log. I didn't see any signs of instability when I tested alpha 6 on my X1000.

Hi Hypex,

Yes, that's strange. Good to know that it works for you. We found the problematic commit that causes boot problems on my X1000 and X5000.

I released the alpha7 of kernel 6.18 today.

The vmlinux-6.18, zImage-6.18 and uImage-6.18 are with the problematic commit.

The vmlinux-6.18-2, zImage-6.18-2 and uImage-6.18-2 are without the problematic commit.

Please test one kernel with and one kernel without the problematic commit.

Thanks,
Christian

Hypex,

It seems that my Radeon HD6870 and my HD5870 have problems with the new PCI code.

Hi All,

I released the alpha8 of kernel 6.18 with the pci.patch (reverting patch) for X1000 and e5500 machines (X5000/20, X5000/40, Mirari, and QEMU VMs) today.

Download and further information: github.com

Please test the kernels.

Thanks,
Christian
