I think I've found the problem and this may explain the intermittent fails. A related clue is all my volumes tested except Debian are using ramdisk. I checked my 6.12 ramdisk and it's stale. A month out of date. While that's not too long ago it should match to when I installed the kernel. So I'll regenerate it and see if that's the issue.

Hi All,

Linus Torvalds has released the RC2 of kernel 6.15 for testing.

I have compiled it for our machines.

Looks like my suspicions were correct. I rebuilt the 6.12.22 ramdisk and retested. All my Ubuntu systems and Fienix then booted fine. :-)

6.15 RC2 installed and now ready for testing...

Maybe it was the change to ABIv2. Thanks a lot for reporting and testing.

You could be right there. I didn't think of that as when I discovered the ABI issue on Debian it crashed. Or, actually, the ABI2 kernels solved the crashing on Debian. I checked the ramdisk contents I had using ldd on the fsck binary and comparing with what fsck I had on system. I did see a difference with one needing libpcre3 and the other didn't. But thought all libs needed would be inside ramdisk. What's strange is I kept getting the message on Precise even though Precise has libpcre3 installed. :-D

In any case I've now tested 6.15 RC2 and all systems booted. I had an issue with Bionic as it loaded the login screen, instead of logging me in, and nothing happened after I logged in. I'll boot it again and check logs. Debian had lots of updates last night including some AMD firmware. I don't know if it will fix my issues but suspect not many people are testing Debian with an R7 250 either. I'm not aware of the best card a G5 tower can take which would be the most common machine it would be tested on I expect.
