Downloaded the file but it is the same exact size and date of the old file. Are you sure the link is pointing to the new version? Tried it and still doing the same thing. Think it's the same image I was trying before.

The version should be 3.0-2020608 and the .tar.gz should be 2.5 GB

Downloaded again and this time got the updated .img file. Wrote it with the suggested windows utility. Tried to start it up again and ran into the same thing. Everything appeared to go OK down to the following line:

Loading Device Tree to 03fe6000, end 03fffa3d ... OK

Next line is a solid blue cursor again as before.

CTRL+ALT+F1 still does nothing, screen never goes black.

I am at home tonight and do not have access to a unix/linux box so had to use the windows utility to write the image to the usb stick.
Monday when I am back at work I can try again with Fedora and dd to write the image.

screenshot attached i hope....

Which graphics card is installed in your X5000?

Another hint: You wrote bootarg instead of bootargs. Please try to boot it with bootargs.

Code: Select all

setenv bootargs root=LABEL=FIENIX-DISK rootdelay=5

Instructions do not have the s on bootargs either.

Tried again with bootargs. Same result.

I am using an ATI R7-250 graphics card could this be the problem?

Will the Radeon RX-550 work with Fienix?

No, it works but without any 3D hardware acceleration.

I've corrected the instructions, thanks for pointing that out.
Also thank you for posting the pic; I didn't realize your system didn't even begin the Linux boot process. I don't think there is any reason to suspect the disk or partitions. It seems like the boot files like maybe the dtb aren't working with your system. U-Boot and the boot files really aren't my area of expertise though.
Christian do you think this might be a RAM corruption issue? Or maybe the old "mem=3500M radeon.modeset=0" (I don't remember if those are right) parameters might help?

It seems the graphics card won’t initialize correctly. I don’t know why. Maybe a firmware issue.

I think it is better to test an old Radeon HD graphics card like a one from the 6000, 5000, and 4000 series.

I am using an Radeon R7-250 card without any issues... but then again it could be another brand with other firmware.
The mem=3500M option could be worth a try. There might be a PCI card in the machine thats a bit problematic with more than 3.5 GB ram.

This graphics card should work. I will check the firmwares.
