AmigaOs 3.1.4 install cdrom

Post by flip971 »

Hi to all,

I have buyed the 3.1.4 for all My Amigas (500/600/2000/1200ppc/4000ppc) the roms images and the floppy images.
I lost a lot of time to find several disks to use to make the full set of installation disks.
Why didn't create a bootable iso to semplify the istallation (and adding some little stuff, like the icon pack and wallpapers already set to use) like the 3.5 or 3.9?

Thanks, Flip971.

Hi Flip971,

Not all advertised Amigas come with a cd-rom, and those that may have one are not guaranteed to allow bootable cdroms. But certainly all of them do come with a floppy drive.

Then there is the fact that 3.1.4 was a progression on 3.1, which came on 6 floppies. AmigaOS 3.1.4 came on 6 floppies too.

The only difference between floppy sets are the modules disks, all other disks are the same. So according to your post you would only need a total of 8 disks.

No only that, but there is a healthy amount of ways to avoid dealing with physical floppies: like using Gotek drives, the Amiga RPI device (a RaspBerry Pi that emulates a floppy drive), using emulators, mounting their images using amiga programs, etc.

Sorry for the delay.

I don't understand what the modules floppys are for or what is on them.

No problem on the delay, no one is in a hurry. ;)

Back to the point: the modules disk has the contents of the new kickstart 3.1.4 rom divided in its individual components (known as "modules"). They are supplied this way so that the kickstart 3.1 rom, if present, can be upgraded to this new rom by loading all of them to ram and fooling the system to use this ram copy.

Also, in addition to the 3.1.4 kickstart modules, that are slightly different for some Amiga models, it contains the optional and new intuition.library v45 that lets you move windows out of the screen.

I hope this helps you to clear your doubts.
