Yes, you must be right... The value advised in AmigaOS4.1 Installation Guide also starts with '53'. This typo is probably originating from the default filesystem value which starts with 4, left there accidentally when editing the field... Sorry for that! But I was not yet at those times very familiar with OS4.1 ;-). Anyway, they worked ok with OS 4.1 classic and also with OS 3.x.
Are these partitions formatted with data?
Yes. Probably nothing important but my intention was to check their contents before reformatting them.

It simply stands for Custom File System and is the contents of the DosType input field which you should overtype when you add a new file system to the RDB. It should never be used for file systems and partitions. (But it can if you use it in both places.)
Thank you for you kind words, Sir... WHAT MANUAL the stupid user SHOULD have read?
The one you are just about to admit to having read.
At least I read the AmigaOS 4.1 (Update 2) Installation manual, in which it is indeed advised to use the 'Custom File System' and 'DosType', if the SFS/0 is not directly listed (Page 25, Adding Work Partitions).
This expected you to enter SFS manually if not present. Here it defaults to DOS/3 so you must have edited incorectly. UNless a much older media toolbox had adifferent default. In the most recent as SmartFileSystem is in kickstart it's already present in the list of avalable filesystems.
I think you own me an apology, Sir...
Nah, there are few people that you will better advice from than Thomas, across the whole AmigaOS 3.x to 4.x spectrum, so take it on the chin with a pinch of salt amd move on :-)

That is suprising but I'l take your word for it,

OK try just changing the CFS to SFS ****without making any other changes**** You might get lucky and be able to read them after that.

I even installed the disk back into my old machine and I checked once more - those CSF/0 partitions are indeed recognized on both side.

But with 4.1 FE Prerelease new partitions created similar way cannot even be formatted. I wonder if this happens only in X5000, or is it the same with all machines with FE?

Thanks for the tip - it worked! Even if Mediatoolbox warned that the contents will probably be lost... Fortunately probably is not always the same as surely!

There aren't any mountlists for them on the classic are there? That's the only way I can see they would work.
