can not boot linux at all!
hi there.
i now finally tried to start linux on my x1000. i once tried this - 2 years ago i think. with no luck.
and this time - again - no luck
i used the files from here.
1. using a dvd with ubuntu mate 16.04 live
2. first trying kernel from dvd
3. trying stable kernel on cfcard
please see the results in the screenshots...
what is wrong here?!
what also is interesting is that my dvd drive is names atapi0.0 and not 0.1
it *is* connected to SATA0 and my ssd is connected to SATA2. just like described in the x1000 setup guide.
needless to say, that this is running now for quite some years and i have no problems on the os4 side
any ideas?
thanks and regards
michael

Hi Michael,
Which graphics card is installed in your X1000? Could you please try to boot ubuntu MATE from a USB flash drive?
Download
Thanks,
Christian

Could you please also check the SATA cables? Maybe you need to replace one. It could be that the optical drive has a problem.

Re: can not boot linux at all!
today i tried to boot linuc just right after powering on the x1000...
well, i *can* start mate with the stable kernel from the cf card! this was aboslutely not possible yesterday! i did not change anything. just tried it again.
i still can not boot with the mate kernel on the dvd. no changes regarding the error messages.
do i also need the ramdisk?

Re: can not boot linux at all!
i now downloaded the fat one:
MATE_PowerPC_Remix_2017_0.8.img.tar.gz (Google Drive)
and "copied" it to a 16gib usb pen drive.
but that is not readable? which format is it? neither windows nor CFE recognizes it.
well, i don't get it. i really hardly understand which files are iso, images and how to use them...
the only thing i was able to get working is the "old" mate iso on dvd. everything else i am not able to understand.
rgeards...

No, it isn't readable on Windows and on the CFE because there is only one ext4 partition on your USB pen drive.
Boot with the kernel 4.14.5:
Code: Select all
CFE> setenv bootargs "root=LABEL=AMIGAONE rootdelay=5"
Code: Select all
CFE> ramdisk -z -addr=0x24000000 -fatfs cf0:initrd.img-4.14.5
Code: Select all
CFE> boot -elf- noints -fatfs cf0:vmlinux-4.14

Re: can not boot linux at all!
finally tried 4.14.5/6.
no success
copied the img to an usb pen drive (16gb). kernel on cf card.
this is what happened: after that - nothing. rebooted after a couple of minutes...
wtf is so wrong with my hardware configuration here that i don't even can boot a live image?!
i remember having tried this 2-3 years ago - and also giving up then...
regards...

Hi Michael,
I think the image isn’t the problem. The Linux kernel can’t initialize your graphics card.
Unfortunately I can’t say why it doesn’t initialize your graphics card but we have to figure out why.
Cheers,
Christian
