@tonyw: It says Smartfilesystem 1.279 (68k) so it is running.

Many of my postings here seem to be rather big. ;) The system time was off when I did this report. I was not up doing this before 7 in the morning. I have corrected the time setting now.

Strange. It's nowhere else to be seen. Are you sure that your current directory wasn't L: when you entered the version command?

@thomasrapp: Here is the result of the HDDReport Tool:
Looks like everything is in place with the correct identifiers etc. But for some reason SmartFilesSystem didn't make it into Filesystem.resource. Did you reboot after you added it to the RDB?

Maybe p5020sata.device does not load 68k file systems from the RDB. Could be a bug. Or intention.

Anyhow, you can cut the mount data from the Partitions section of the report and create DosDriver files for the partitions. Just add FileSystem = L:SmartFileSystem and Activate = 1 like so:

Code: Select all

    Device          = p5020sata.device
    Unit            = 0
    Flags           = 0
    SectorSize      = 512
    Surfaces        = 5
    SectorsPerBlock = 1
    SectorsPerTrack = 25
    Reserved        = 2
    PreAlloc        = 0
    Interleave      = 0
    LowCyl          = 84001
    HighCyl         = 587311
    Buffers         = 1000
    BufMemType      = 1
    MaxTransfer     = 0x0FFFFFFF
    Mask            = 0xFFFFFFFE
    BootPri         = 0
    DosType         = 0x53465300
    FileSystem      = L:SmartFileSystem
    Activate        = 1
Save this as Sys:Storage/DosDrivers/DH1, then enter Mount DH1: at a DOS prompt.

When I wrote "attach it here" I actually meant to use the "Upload attachment" function of the forum.

Maybe p5020sata.device does not load 68k file systems from the RDB.
I don't think any device driver does that. I'm sure the PATA/SATA drivers do not. I think that would be up to mounter.library.
cheers

Sorry about that. I am not really used to this forum yet. :oops: I will continue trying tomorrow it is rather late now.

@thomasrapp: I am at dh0: when I type "version full Smartfilesystem" and the information shows up fine.

I have now created the file with the mount data and placed it in L: The only thing that happens when I try to mount DH1: is that I get the message the file DEVS:Mountlist is missing. Maybe I am making a very basic mistake but I very seldom mess with mountlists and such.

You see the discrepancy?

It's the task of the device driver to initiate the process. Whether it utilises an external library or does it by itself does not really matter in the end.

Re: Smartfilesystem v 1.293 ?

Post by Niolator »

Well, that didn't work either. As I thought it seems that the OS hinders attempts to use old 68k SFS filesystems. I get a message (direct translated from Swedish):
A process attempted to get access with an obsolete method. There is no longer support for BCPL-programs

Unit: "DH1/SmartFilesysem 1.279 "
GlobVec == 0
Process "Shell Process"
Function: "Internal_LoadDevice()"

This message is shown when the program has used a system function in a way that violates normal guidelines for the OS. It is uncertain if the program will work as intended.
DH1 is mounted but I can't access it. If I try I only get this message again.

Sorry, my fault. Add this to the DosDriver:

GlobVec = -1
