Problem with booting AOS4.1

Post by Joeled »

I managed to damage my AOS4.1.4 when i tried to install ptplay.library based TuneNet plugin. It freezed after a while and i could only do a reboot but then i get errors like:
Amigados process: 6
Please insert volume T:
Process: adddatatypes

If i try to assign it i get a asl.library requires requester.class v53 or higher.

If i choose cancel i get process: 27
Insert keymaps in any volume

Assign file is not executable...

Etc etc..

If i chooce cancel on everything i get into wb but with a low resolution. If i cancel the last one "process: "usb stack process" everything goes black.

Help i need smby!! The OS cant execute the files somehow.

I guess i have to reinstall everything :(

@slayer
How do you mean? I can start the system if i choose cancel on all errors at startup. Then i get a low resolution workbench. I open up shell wrote what you suggested and i get there message "the file is not executble". If i could get a startup-sequence from smby with a SAM460/Aone500 and replaced it in my system. Would that help?

so protect is also not executable? hmmm

I don't think replacing the startup-sequence is going to work since it will just have the same commands, what do you get if you type dir c:

I wonder if somehow your C directory has been replaced????

type this

Sys:C/protect Sys:C/assign prwed

what do you get now?

If your boot partition is DH0: then replace Sys: with that

Do you have a bootable CDRom?

You could boot off your AmigaOS4.x CDRom and click through to the workbench, start up DirOpus and click for a listing of DH0: and rename your C directory to C-Old then select the C directory from the CDRom that is part of the complete workbench installation (not the C directory in the root dir IIRC) and copy the entire directory across to DH0:

Eject and reboot your AmigaOS4.x system

But any luck so far? ;)

Can you do it around the other way then. Boot into WB from your damaged AmigaOS4.x harddrive and insert the CDRom into your drive and start DirOpus and continue?

btw just a thought follows

I guess the AmigaOS4.x CDRom doesn't have the later radeon drivers, you could create a new iso replacing those files in kickstart etc, a bit more advanced but you have to start somewhere ;)

Another thing, if you do get DirOpus up and you can find the archive you downloaded you could click on it through DirOpus and see what this installation has installed, perhaps that will give you more insight into what has been overwritten.

Apparently you were following the advice you got from AlexC in this same post on AmigaWorld.net. His suggestion isn't going to work if you failed to get to the boot shell. Those assignments were already made in the startup-sequence and will fail if you try to assign them a second time from a normal shell.

I D/L the archive from OS4Depot and it just has a short installer script that installs the plugin. To me it looks like the worse thing that could go wrong is for the plugin to be installed in the wrong location and not be available to TuneNet. I don't see how his problem is related to that installation but maybe I'm wrong. Here is the install script from that archive:

(welcome)
(if (exists "ENV:AppDir/TuneNet")
(set tunenet_path (getenv "AppDir/TuneNet"))
(set tunenet_path (getenv "AppPath/TuneNet"))
)
(set @default-dest (askdir
(prompt "Please locate the TuneNet plugins directory.")
(help "This is where the plugin will be installed.")
(default (tackon tunenet_path "Plugins"))
(disk)
))
(copylib
(prompt "Copying TN_PTPlay.tnplug")
(help @copylib-help)
(source "TN_PTPlay.tnplug")
(dest @default-dest)
)
(exit)
