AmigaOne 500 issues

Post by xe800 »

Hi! I have some questions about AmigaOne 500 (new owner!)

During startup, UBoot detects Sata 0 and Sata 1, but at Sata 2 it pauses and eventually times out. Is this normal?

Sound is not working properly, I get static/crackling all the time. I use the correct driver and have installed it according to instructions. Is it a hardware fault or just lousy drivers?

Also, I am sure OWB had its own category on the AmiDock, but now it has gone and OWB dock is floating around without a "mother". How do I fix it?

Thanks! :D

What type of SATA card do you have (SII3114 or SII3512) and how many devices are connected to it?
For the SII3114 cards with only two devices attached if you set the uboot variables to indicate this on boot up
you should not get a time out . The Uboot settings look something like this

sii3114ide_timeout=5
sii3114ide_conf=1002
sii3114ide_xfer=G00F

Some users have tracked the possible cause of the sound problems to a speedup utility from A-Cube ,
sam 460ex_setup in WBstartup .

I think 3114, with an SSD at Sata 0 and a 500GB HDD at Sata 1. I'm not aware of anything else hooked up to Sata. I'll try changing the UBoot setting.

Btw, Ranger lists "06.00.01 Undefined Multimedia Device" under the PCI Bus heading. Is this the onboard soundcard? I will try disable that Acube utility from startup and see if it helps.

I tried all the Uboot menus listed during startup, but found nowhere to set those variables.

Also, I find no trace of "sam 460ex_setup" in Prefs/WBStartup, so I guess it is not installed on my machine?

This is probably the HDMI Audio from your graphics card .

Can I ask you what graphics card do you have and what strength power supply aslo which SATA Card SII31114 or SII3512 ?. Just remembered that I have an Amigaone 500 on order . I am trying to see if there is a hardware configuration pattern to the audio problems.

Sound (solved-ish):
- Going back to an older driver (6.3 dated 21.04.12) more or less fixed my sound. It's not perfect (it doesn't sound as clear as it should, and theres still a little bit static in the distance) but not bad enough to annoy me anymore.

Gfx (solved):
- I had issues with fullscreen (=simply would not work, only got black screen) on DVPlayer and other apps, upgrading from RadeonHD.chip 0.15 to 0.49 fixed it for me.

Other issues (unsolved):
- using the keyboard to restart the Amiga leads to strange behaviour, and during startup it will say it finds 1 USB instead of the normal 5. Mouse will not work. Only turning off the machine will put things back to normal.
- performance in Flare. This is a 2D game, right? Then why is it so slow? To get the proper runspeed of the character I control, I must play in 640x480, anything higher and animation slows down. Is it just a badly optimized port or is the AmigaOne 500 really that underpowered?

- Sometimes, when coldbooting, I will have either no sound or no control of mouse when I get to Workbench. Reboot fixes it. Possible cause?

- I still don't know what to do to fix boot issues (see previous posts). Can someone explain exactly what to type, and where?

- Why does the boot state that I have 5 USB entities and one USB storage device? My only USB equipment is mouse and keyboard.

It probably counts also your builtin (internal) USB hubs, and the SD card reader under the motherboard (which is connected internally as part of the USB bus). If you have an SD card in that reader, that accounts also for the storage device reported. Or maybe the card slot is reported as a storage device even if empty?

At any rate, try the USBInspector in your Utilities drawer, it should be able to give you more info.
