Fienix 5.1 Spark
I've uploaded an image for Fienix 5.1, codename Spark. It was a considerable task to weed out and fix packages this time, due to what I believe was an unfortunate and misguided decision at Debian. That said, most packages in Fienix Spark are the current version. However, I've held back KDE/Qt packages a few versions to ensure their operability and stability. I plan on building KDE/Qt packages myself for future updates instead of importing them from Debian since they seem to be the most problematic.
Spark is basically a stability release with quite a few refinements and creates a good foundation for going forward. Hopefully you can try it out!
Fienix Download Page Choose "Download Fienix Live Image" (second button).
Notes:
Spark starts in "compatibility mode" with fbdev and effects turned off. If you have a supported GPU you can use Fienix Companion to enable hardware acceleration.
If you require an input method platform, as I believe kilaueabart uses, please try SCIM.
Thanks!
Casey

Re: Fienix 5.1 Spark
Yes, setup a boot partition and a main partition. Boot files (uImage and device tree) go in the boot partition. dd the image to the main partition and check the partition with gparted after the image has copied over.
I'm working on a tool that will handle most of this but it isn't finished yet.

Re: Fienix 5.1 Spark
@caseycullen
I tried to run Spark in my machine but it does not work as expected... I can login from the terminal screen, but cannot load any desktop. 'Lightdm' is not found if I try it as 'fienix', and if I use 'root' there is a warning the disk is read-only and a log file cannot be written. 'Startx' does not work either, it exits before getting any desktop visible.
I used 5.10 kernel and 5.10 uInitrd, which work ok with 'Soar' and with the original Fienix installation.
Edit: Tested also with kernel 5.15 (and uInitrd 5.12, have seen not seen a newer one), the same problems!

Re: Fienix 5.1 Spark
Hi Roland,
I had the save issue but copied my Xorg.conf (from previous linux install) in the /etc/X11 directory.
After a reboot all was fine based on my Radeon driver. If you are using a HD card, use the FBdev driver.

Re: Fienix 5.1 Spark
Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it did not have any effect on my system. I have a HD 7450 (Caicos; the same as 6450). My kernels etc. are on the BootSD, and the Fienix5 root partition is on a USB stick.
Here is the xorg.conf I used:
Code: Select all
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "fbdev"
#Driver "radeon"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
EndSubSection
EndSection

Re: Fienix 5.1 Spark
Ahhh the Caicos does not need the FBdev.. but you can use Radeon as the driver.
I have been using this card as well with 3D support.
Try this Xorg.conf
Section “Monitor”
Identifier “Monitor0”
EndSection
Section “Device”
Identifier “Device1”
Driver “radeon”
EndSection
Section “ServerFlags”
Option “AIGLX” “on”
EndSection
Section “Module”
Load “dri”
Load “dri2”
Load “dbe”
Load “glx”
Load “type1”
Load “freetype”
Load “record”
EndSection
Section “DRI”
Mode 0666
EndSection
Section “Extensions”
Option “Composite” “Enable”
Option “RENDER” “Enable”
Option “RANDR” “Enable”
Option “DAMAGE” “Enable”
Option “GLX” “Enable”
EndSection
Section “Screen”
Identifier “Screen0”
Device “Device0”
Monitor “Monitor0”
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection “Display”
Depth 24
Viewport 0 0
EndSubSection
