Re: No Ethernet with... Sound Blaster card ?

Post by Amiguy »

When I run the lspci | grep -i audio, we can see that it is probably first the graphics card that is detected to the detriment of the sound card:

Code: Select all

0000:01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Oland/Hainan/Cape Verde/Pitcairn HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 7000 Series]
1000:05:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Sound Core3D [Sound Blaster Recon3D / Z-Series] (rev 01)
So I have added, according to the advice from bolt.0 and other advice elsewhere, a config file in /etc/modprobe.d with the following option:

options snd_hda_intel enable = 0.1

...but this does not work, and:

options snd_hda_intel index = 1.0

...does not work either. :(

Shouldn't there be 'comma' instead of 'point' in those strings...?

Unfortunately I am not able to give any other advice but let's hope Christian will soon comment your trials !-)

Yes of course. It should be a comma, not a point. It was only a typo that was made when copying the text. Sometimes the punctuation changes.

Thanks for your help ;) There is nothing urgent. It would just be great if we found the solution, because I wouldn't change the card for anything in the world, it is so effective on Amiga and surely also on Linux. I think other Amigans would surely be interested.

Indeed! I was recently considering of purchasing that card, too, but as I was not sure whether it would work with Linux I chose an old Sound Blaster Live! card. It works with all OSs, including MorphOS. But it uses a PCI slot for which I would have better use...

Hi Amiguy,

Could you please test some older kernels?

Downloads: www.supertuxkart-amiga.de

Maybe there is an issue in new kernels with your card.

Thanks,
Christian

I installed the 5.7 kernel which makes the CMI sound card and Ethernet work fine, but not the Sound Blaster.

Here are the results of my test orders:

I have seen some issues with your network card in the log. There are some files missing. Unfortunately I don't know what we can do further. Maybe another one has a new idea.

The system has loaded the kernel module for the Sound Blaster Recon3D sound card as well (snd_hda_codec_ca0132). You don't have a Recon3D card. Very strange. It also has loaded the Realtek codec for the Sound Blaster Audigy Fx SBX.

Please try as root:
  • modprobe -r snd-hda-intel
  • modprobe -r snd_hda_codec_generic
  • modprobe -r snd_hda_codec_realtek
  • modprobe snd_hda_codec_ca0132
You can load kernel modules with "modprobe" and unload with "modprobe -r". Please play a little bit more with loading and unloading the kernel modules in another order.

Maybe modprobe -r snd_hda_codec_ca0132 or rmmod snd_hda_codec_ca0132 helps.

We have to figure out which codec works with your sound card.
