If you want to watch Youtube videos in HD and playing games with 3D hardware acceleration then I would recommend you to use a Radeon HD6xxx, 5xxx, or 4xxx graphics card. Do you use OS4.1 or MorphOS on your X5000?kilaueabart wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 6:29 pmPlease advise. Should I get a better graphics card, if possible?

Re: Kernel 5.14
But the video decoding for MPEG format is very limited due to the 'levels' even with HD6/5/4xxx Radeons, as explained by Casey in this thread: viewtopic.php?p=50142#p50142. It is not possible to run even 720p (1280x720) MPEG video using hardware acceleration.
I have never been able to run Youtube videos with a HD5450 (which has the same 'levels' as the best 6xxx cards) at higher resolution than 720p/25fps in a X5000/20, and then the average cpu usage is around 90% (some 720p/25fps videos go even up to 100% and do not work properly; I do not know why they need more CPU power). For 1080p a X5000/40 is needed.

Re: Kernel 5.14
I don't play computer games. I don't watch enough Youtube on the X5000 to worry about HD. In Fienix I have to switch from InterWeb to Arctic Fox to get proper colors in YouTube.
Ironically, I bought this X5000 to use my Amiga on, but I spend most of my time on the internet nowadays, and the Amiga browsers are even worse than Interweb, so I rarely boot OS4 anymore.
Re: Kernel 5.14
I am away for a few weeks so no kernel testing for me till the 3 th of August.
AmigaOne X5000 -> 2GHz / 16GB RAM / Radeon RX 570 / Radeon X1950 / M-Audio 5.1 -> AmigaOS / Linux
Amiga 1200 -> Recapped / 68ec020 ACA 1221ec / CF HDD / RetroNET connected to the world

Re: Kernel 5.14
Hi All,
The RC1 of kernel 5.14 is available for the X1000 and X5000.
New:
Please test the RC1.
Thanks,
Christian
The RC1 of kernel 5.14 is available for the X1000 and X5000.
New:
- Linux 5.14-rc1 Released - Big GPU Drivers Update, Secret Memory Option + Core Scheduling -- phoronix.com
- Linux 5.14-rc1 release announcement
Fixed crashes on 64-bit Book3E due to use of Book3S only mtmsrd instruction. That means, the interrupt patch because of the boot issue is in the official kernel source code now. - Linux Git log
- Phoronix articles, reviews and news stories covering Linux 5.14
Please test the RC1.
Thanks,
Christian

Re: Kernel 5.14
RC1 works here with MintPPC... But after one reboot the system obviously went into some sort of loop as t he CPU fan was hurling but only a black screen was shown. Had to quickly power off to get out of it...
Also, the problem with the onboard ethernet is still present (unplg/replug needed to get connection)! Isn't there really anyone trying to solve this issue...? I have tested two different Cyrus+ boards and two internet connections from different operators but the problem was present in all cases.
BTW, what does the 'Big GPU Drivers update' mean in practice? Should it be visible somehow in PPC environment?

Re: Kernel 5.14
Great! Thanks a lot for testing!
Good, that it works. I haven't seen this loop issue yet.
I don't use the onboard ethernet with Linux. I only use it with MorphOS. But I have the same issue with the onboard DPAA Ethernet with Linux. Skateman has luck and can use it without any problems. You can create another bug report if you like.Roland wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 7:38 pm Also, the problem with the onboard ethernet is still present (unplg/replug needed to get connection)! There were some updates for our old Radeon cards but the big GPU drivers updates were for modern graphics cards.BTW, what does the 'Big GPU Drivers update' mean in practice? Should it be visible somehow in PPC environment?
