The Radeon HD 5450 is a good graphics card for weak AmigaOnes like the A1222 but for your X5000 it is better to use a Radeon HD6870 or 6970. I think you should test another graphics card.
I will try to borrow some card, if I just succeed to find one... But I strongly disagree with you what comes to the 'betterness' of HD 6870/6970! A HD 5450 has the same 'levels' in video acceleration, so those cards would not offer any improvement. And as I do not have any need for heavy 3D acceleration, HD 5450 is well enough for my purposes.

Additionally: the TDP max is only 19W for 5450, whereas for 6870/6970 it is 150/250W! In my case that extra power consumption would just warm the climate, without any profit :-(. Not to mention the extra noise which the fans on those "powercards" create, compared to a passively cooled 5450...

The 'best' is not always the same as the 'most powerfull'!
I will also test youtube-dl in the next weeks.
Ok, thanks...:-) It is interesting to hear whether it has any 'side effects' on your system.

I got now the 'type 1' corruption when streaming with VLC (kernel 5,10), WITHOUT the Dawicontrol SCSI board. This result, with the previous one, 'rehalilitates' the Dawicontrol... It is not the source of these issues.

2. Open a terminal window and 'cd' to a suitable disk/folder.
3. Run Youtube-dl with this command:

Code: Select all

youtube-dl -f 720p https://www.ccma.cat/tv3/alacarta/programa/women-series-primera-cursa-austria/video/6108343/
4. Place the terminal window partly over the bottom side of the VLC window.
5. Wait for a couple of minutes, and then start moving the terminal window around.
6. A graphical mess, and sometimes a total freezing follows...
Hi Roland,

I tested your instructions with Fienix with the RC2 of kernel 5.16 and with the Big Buck Bunny 1080p H264 video today and I don't have this issue. Youtube-dl is great! Thanks for the hint!

Cheers,
Christian

Could you please test it also with the latest 5.10? With 5.16 RC2 I did not see the issue (at least with first trial) but with 5.10 I get it every time. Which graphics card did you use?

I tested your instructions with the kernel 5.10.39 today. It works without any problems. I use a Radeon HD 6970 in my X5000.

Ok, thank you for testing! I try to get next week another graphics board for testing.

Do you happen to know whether AMD ever made Radeon drivers for PPC Linux? Or are there only the opensource ones available for our system?

I don't know AMDGPU All-Open and AMDGPU-Pro drivers for PPC Linux.

I replaced now the HD 5450 with a HD 7450... I have not been able to recreate the 'type2' issue with this new board! So, it seems the HD 5450 was indeed, one way or another, the source of this issue. But the mystery is, why did it appear with kernel 5.10 and why is it not visible in any form with AmigaOS or MOS? Any idea...?
