Youtube not working anymore with ArcticFox and SpiderWeb?

Post by Roland »

When I have lately tried to run videos from Youtube, there has been several problems...

Firstly, both ArcticFox and Spiderweb show this message when you go to Youtube:

"We’ll stop supporting this browser soon. For the best experience please update your browser."

What does this mean?

Secondly, ViewTube does not seem to work at all with ArcticFox! (Yes, it is activated from the Plugins menu and I have downloaded the last version from Sebaros site). The ViewTube user interphase is not shown at all when I open a vdeo...

Thirdly, though in Spiderweb the Viewtube interphase still appears, the videos has now wrong colors! Earlier this problem was corrected by Viewtube...

So, are are we out of Youtube from now on?

I have the same error message on YouTube.

The latest version 2020.01.24 works on my Fienix installation.

I have no wrong colors with ViewTube in SpiderWeb on Fienix. Did you install the ViewTube version from the following thread?

That's what I have installed in ArcticFox/Fienix, too. I have two different versions of GreaseMonkey (the original one from Fienix Depot, and a newer one from Github), but the Youtube interphase does not appear with either of them. Could you please send the gm_scrips drawer you have installed in your ArcticFox? I could then see if the problem is there.

I think so, and when I now reinstalled the gm_scripts drawer from your link (with the old viewtube.user.js script from 2019), it had the right colors. But as soon as I replaced it with the 2020.01.24 viewtube.user.js which I copied from the link you gave, the colors got distorted! Is there something else than replacing that script that should be done...?

I was finally able to get the latest ViewTube script to work with ArcticFox, after some removal and reinstallation steps (don't quite understand what happened there...). But the 2020.01.24 is running videos slowly (probably too high default resolution or fps), so I had to go back to an older version.

The color problem with Spiderweb is still unresolved. And I checked that also Palemoon has the same 'blue' problem with that 2020.01.24!
How to fix this...?

Roland,

OK, you can use hardware 3D acceleration. What about your VLC settings? (Menu Tools - Preferences - Video)

I currently use the OpenGL GLX video output (XCB). Additionally I use 'Accelerated video output (Overlay)'.
As input codec I use the 'VA-API video decoder via DRM' for hardware-accelerated decoding on my X5000 and X1000 (Menu Tools - Preferences - Input / Codecs).

Cheers,
Christian

YouTube was working perfectly for me yesterday; today it isn't. All my config seems to be fine. Could someone else verify whether or not they're able to use YouTube with VLC/Greasemonkey/ViewTube?

Hi Casey,

I have the same issue but I figured out, that an old ViewTube script still works. I successfully installed it in SpiderWeb yesterday.

Instructions:

  1. Start SpiderWeb and install the add-on greasemonkey-3.10.0.1rc3pre-sw.xpi (Download and then File - Open File... - greasemonkey-3.10.0.1rc3pre-sw.xpi)
  2. Restart SpiderWeb
  3. After that, download the ViewTube script
  4. Decompress the package and copy the folder gm_scripts to /home/<your user directory>/.wicknix/spiderweb/<profile directory>
    For example:

    Code: Select all

    cp -R gm_scripts /home/amigaone/.wicknix/spiderweb/xa4ue3g6.default/
  5. Restart SpiderWeb
Cheers,
Christian

Casey,

I figured out, that only InterWeb with ViewTube is affected with this issue. Arctic Fox with the latest ViewTube version and SpiderWeb with the old ViewTube version work without any problems.

Christian
