@roland

GLmark2 showed me a small FPS increase compared to the X1 adapter. Now is the Radeon 7450 not a FPS beast at all..
What counts for me is the hardware acceleration, GLsupport etc. It makes the system feels more snappy than using the (a) FBdev Southern Island card which i used for several years.

I have to do some more tests regarding FPS stuff...

@JohnFante
It works as well as the X1 adapter but the X4 cable is just more solid and spares at least one slot

More GPU power for Linux.... HD 3870 ..!

Today i tried to fit a full size Radeon HD 3870 in my X5000 using the X4 - X16 cable.
I had been using low profile cards along the way but with some quick and dirty fixes.... its up and running!!
Compared to the 7450 Radeon.. this card is a BEAST :-) GLmar2 score went from around 800 to 2200+

2200+ is good. Well done! :-)

For comparison:

X1000 with a Radeon HD6970 in an x16 PCIe 1.0 slot with 4000 MByte/s: 2040

Image

X5000/40 with a Radeon HD6970 in an x4 PCIe 2.0 slot with 2000 MByte/s (AGP 8x: 2133 MByte/s): 2772

Last weekend i replaced the Radeon HD3870 for a Radeon HD4770.

The cooling fan of the HD 4770 is more quiet that the HD 3870 ...

GLmark2 ... lets go..!

And the results are in :-) .. with 1972 points a bit slower that the HD 3870, but with less noise it will remain in the X5000 for now.
