@Xeno
I don't know. For me, the copy operations are fast enough, so I haven't needed to investigate this problem yet.
Do you only have x5000/040 right, no second x5000/020?

At first, when a year ago I tested some of my ports under amigaos4 on x5000/040, it give fewer fps in some games in compassion with my x5000/020, with the same gfx card. Then I heard from another one something of that sort. Then, when we test some DMA routines in the gfx drivers we found that they also slowers on x5000/040. Like, on x5000/020 we have in the same driver 300 Mb/s , but on x5000/040 250 MB/s or something. Then comparing of gfxbench results, giving that VRAM=>RAM copy performance on the X5000/40 seems to be at least half that of the X5000/20. See:

http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench ... 5000-|-20/
http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench ... 5000-|-40/

So, will be very-very interesting to see if issues happen also on Linux too. And if so, it will be mean that issue or Uboot and default settings, or hardware itself.

Need to think how to check VRAM=>RAM copy performance on Linux , so we can on your and my side

Hi Kas1e,

I tested also some games and my X5000/40 offers the best performance.

For example: DOOM3 time demo test results.

My X5000/20 is slower than the X5000/40.

Sometimes the X1000 is faster than the X5000/20.

SuperTuxKart works best on the X5000/40.

If you want to test further, please do it. Unfortunately I don’t have so much time for testing.

Thanks,
Christian

First, I apologize in advance about intruding again the 'private' discussions between you and Christian...

But also I have tried to find such test program for Linux and have not found any. Instead, there is for MorphOS 'MemtTest' program, which gives with the 'vram' parameter the write and read performance for VRAM. And also there the read performance is VERY low for X5040, even lower than with OS 4.1 (e.g. 12 Mbit/sec MOS vs. 20 Mbit/sec OS4.1 with a HD 7450). So I think there is indeed something wrong at lower level than the operating systems themselves.

@Roland
I will create a new topic about comparing x5000/040 and x5000/020 under Linux and AmigaOS4 so we will see what going on.

Hi All,

Great news for ATI R300~R500 GPUs for example the ATi Radeon X1950 PRO Extreme, which I use in my X5000/20 and for my ATi Radeon X1650 SE, which I used in my X5000/20 and in my A1222 before. :-)
Void PPC and Debian PPC including the Debian based distributions like MintPPC and Fienix will get the new Mesa drivers.

Screenshots of my ATi Radeon X1950 PRO Extreme in action. :-)
