I have installed and have it running (with the latest 4.11rc3 kernel). Could not get rsync to work properly so I ended up restoring the image to a new partition with the builtin disk tool.
Four observations:
~ No 3d acceleration on my R9 270X ~ I have tried with both the fbdev and the radeon driver en xorg.conf
~ No sound on my Envy24HT pcie soundcard ~ it comes up fine in the sound prefs but no sound is coming.
~ When I boot I get white static noise screen instead of the boot logo ~ that is properly connected to the graphics problem.
~ The bluetooth manager crashes after boot ~ properly connected to my no supported asus bt201 bluetooth dongle.

I will fiddle around some more and report back.
Thank you for the update :~)
Hi JohnFante,
There isn't hardware 3D acceleration available for Radeon HD7xxx and higher. You need a Radeon HD6xxx or lower. I asked Sinan because of the support for the Envy24HT PCIe sound card and the Asus bt201 bluetooth dongle.

Thank you! Crossing fingers for 3D on SI GPU#s soon
Tested the 04 release. Same as above plus that the Danish keymapping does not work (did not work on 03 either). I can change to Danish keymapping and so on. But my keyboard still works like it has English keysettings. The is no other language support than English but that is not a big a problem as the lacking keymapping.

The bad news is, that Ubuntu MATE has removed the 32-bit PowerPC architecture. Consequently Ubuntu MATE will not be releasing PowerPC images anymore. Ubuntu MATE 16.04 will continue to support 32-bit PowerPC until 2019 and Ubuntu will offer security updates until 2021.
But the good news is, that I was able to upgrade a lot of packages on ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC because some packages are still being updated. With the new MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 0.5 you can use most of the new features of the official 17.04 release. I will release the new version 0.5 next week.
