@Spectre660
You could also download one of the newer kernels and copy it to the X5000 fat partition on the live USB .
I downloaded 4.16 final, and there is a lot of files inside.. Should i only replace uImage-cyrus with uImage-4, or i should copy all the files from x5000 directory over old ones (including kernel_modules directory, which is not present on my fat partiiton from original X5000_Ubuntu_16.04.1_Live_USB-3.img) ?

There is also some new file "cyrus_p5020_eth_poweroff.dtb" , should i copy that one too, and use it instead of "cyrus_p5020.dtb" ?

Ps. Did our Verde card supported in terms of harware 3d with 4.16 ?

@ kas1e
X5000> fatload usb 0:1 1000000 uImage-cyrus
reading uImage-cyrus
There are some new kernels available for the AmigaOne X5000.

Stable longterm kernel 4.14

Stable kernel 4.15

New mainline kernel 4.16

Latest test kernel 4.17

Please try them. You only need to copy them to the FAT partition on your USB stick and boot from.

For example for the kernel 4.16:

Code: Select all

X5000> fatload usb 0:1 1000000 uImage-4.16

@ kas1e

You don’t need the kernel modules directory for booting the kernel. You can copy it to /lib/modules on your Linux partition later. It has some kernel modules included for other hardware.

Fantastic! I would recommend you to use the new device tree blob file cyrus_p5020_eth_poweroff.dtb. It has poweroff and DPAA Ethernet support. See Device Tree Blobs (dtb) for the X5000. Unfortunately there are still some issues with the DPAA Ethernet. See kernel 4.15 thread.

Do you mean your r7-250? If yes, then unfortunately Linux PPC doesn’t support hardware 3D acceleration with this graphics card.

A warning to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS users.... Only 'partial updates' are possible via 'Softaware updater' for this distro, and they seem to handicap the system! I noticed this when I tried to run a MP4 video from disk using the two working videoplayers included with this distro (not counting VLC as it is not working in X5000). The other one did not open at all, and the other one crashed as soon as I tried to load the video.

Fortunately I had a backup of this distro without the partial update, and it worked ok with both video players :-). Unless there is an alternative way to do updates for 16.04, it is safest to leave it as it is...

Thank you for the hint. Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS PowerPC is still supported so you can create bug reports if you like.

I installed 16.04.4 using my ramdisk installer and have not had any problem with the upgrade to 16.04.5 .
The Live image was giving problems a while ago .
