It is very simple for the X5000 .

All you need to do is copy the downloaded .iso file to the USB drive.
You can do this with the AmigaOS 4.1 command Rawdisk.
Rawdisk is located in the AmigaOS 4.1 Utilities directory .

CODE: SELECT ALL
rawdisk from Downloads:AmigaOneX5000InstallCD-53.25.iso to usb0:

Is that all?

Doesn't this require a modified iso? Otherwise it will boot with a black screen on a Radeon driver that's too old for the video card. Unless the X5000 has a video card older than a 7000 or something.

Looking at the thread this is not as simple as it seems. It should be easy from RawDisk GUI. But instructions are to use it from CLI which can still fail. It looks like a lot of messing about until people give up and just use a Windows to write the image. Clearly OS4 needs a simple USB image writer that just works. :D

But if the X5000 can boot off a CD image on USB directly that's useful! :P

@ Hypex

That was in the days before Radeon RX cards and the X5000/40 .

Newer method : Needing an working AmigaOS 4.1 system or Emulation.

To to make an emergency boot disk copy the contents of the System directory on the AmigaOS 4.1 FE iso to a bootable USB Drive.
Works for Sams and X5000 machines. Used a bootable SFS/00 formatted USB drive .

More recent graphics card drivers versions and the SFS file systems can also be added to the kickstart as needed .

For the X5000/40 I had to copy ehci.usbhcd and p50x0sata.device.kmod from the AmigaOS 41.FE update2 archive.
Also add the Enhancer SFS file systems and Graphics card drivers and update the kicklayout accordingly .

Oh that's not as easy as writing an iso. That would need some set up. OS4 should include a tool to do it by now as it can get a bit involved partitioning a USB drive, copying boot files to it with a patched Kickstart.

@Hypex

The Driver situation has outstripped the new ISO creation pace.

It is possible to use the same process to make a custom ISO though.
Copy the contents the System directory of the installer ISO and make the modifications then
create a new ISO image .

@Spectre660

I've been thinking about making some tool or script for some time. That would also handle preparing USB stick. Then copy files from boot CD over but a database for CD files could used as a reference as well so the CD wasn't needed.

Is the ISO required, or can you just copy your System: volume directly to the System_Rec: volume on the USB stick?

Thanks for any help.

@simulant

You can use either source. You can make dual versions.
Using the ISO will ensure hove have a clean version in case you need one.
Useful if you have any issues at a later date .
