Does it stay connected and allow hot swapping of CD DVD? Or do you have to reboot for each time you need to access a CD or DVD?

Are you using this in an X5K?

i just plugged it in and tried a few cd/dvd's I had lying around. Seem to work fine. I didnt do extensive testing but copied a couple files off installed something off of the AmigaOS Extras. And yes this is with X5000.

*Edit* no reboot. I just plugged it in while machine was on and unplugged it and plugged it back in without error.

Sweet. Sounds like it may do the job.

Will the X5K boot with it already connected and no CD or DVD in.... that way it is on the ready.

And once booted, still read CDs.... or does it take being connected with the OS 4 already up and running?

Thanks... I may buy one!

My iomega slimdrive locks uo my X5K.

I had to do a format and reinstall of the OS because of the garbled text issue Acill also had on his system.

After that, I hooked the drive up again and still get a power issue (I get the popup) and it disconnects the drive when hooking directly up to either the front or back of any of the USB 2.0 ports.

I then connected it to a hub and so far, it hasn't given me an issue today.

EVGA 550 Watt PowerSupply
Internal Seagate 7200 1 TB HD
Internal LG SATA DVD
Radeon 250X
4GB DDR3
AmigaOne Keyboard & Mouse

I can't be out of available power for the USB drive.

Is the CD unit powered by a USB y cable so it needs two USB connections to get enough power and also to connect?

Or does it have its own AC Adapter?

It's just one cable and it's not y'ed.

I have a RGB keyboard connected to my X5K and it must need more USB juice than what the front or some of the rear USB ports offer. If I am not connected to a certain USB port on the motherboard, my X5K will not boot and all fans go full bore with black screen. If in the lower USB ports on motherboard, all is well.

I forget who said it but think some of the front case USB ports and some USB ports on the motherboard share power so not full amount like all USB ports.

Unsure if that is true but could be a reason a powered USB device is OK or like yours getting more power from a hub.

Well I went ahead and ordered it and hope for the best. Should know by Friday if it works, even on a fresh cold boot. Don't want to have to unplug all the time but as long as I can use it to install software... or rips music CDs, I will be happy.

The nice LG external I just purchased from Best Buy failed to work. Does not freeze my X5K like the Iomega one did but does not mount a CD. So a bit timid this one, also an LG I just ordered, will work. We will see.

Only $26

@AmigaSociety I was able to boot and it worked fine so I hope it works out for you.

I am wondering if the troubles with other units has to do with the keyboard issues you experience. I have a RGB keyboard that it works after boot but UBoot doesnt recognize and I get error in the USB stack. I want to get a good mechanical keyboard but am concerned about dropping the coin to find it doesn't work.
