Well my ancient SB Live lasted oh about a month and is dead. So getting another but got me looking at what is available today on after market for sound cards since most PCs today people just use built on motherboard solutions. So I pose the question what board or chip-set would people think would be useful to target if someone was willing take up task of writing a driver for a more modern commercially available solution? I must admit ignorance as to whats available today and affordable. Clearly the CMI chips are not answer due to hit or miss on quality. Second whats availability of source for example of existing AHI drivers for Amgia OS4?

Re: X5000 Proven to Work Hardware List
Don't abandon cards that use CMI chips. There is nothing wrong with the CMI part. The problem in the case of the CMI8738 is the PCI bridge chip - Vers 1 is bad (search any PC user forum) but many cards have a Vers 3 bridge and it works just fine.
cheers

As I have a working Envyht24 with the revision 1 bridge chip I think that it should be possible to work around this issue in the CMI driver.
No one has the time currently to look at it though.

Re: X5000 Proven to Work Hardware List
Ive fitted a Crystal CS4281-CM EP PCI sound card to my X5000 and its working fine. I originally fitted the sound card out of my sam460 but had problems with it straight away, the sound was either choppy or a lot of times it was as if the card wasnt even fitted. There is no name on the card but on the large chip it says VIA Tremor VT1723-1116CD and it used the Envy24ht driver.
No problems with it in the 460 but my X5000 did not like it

Re: X5000 Proven to Work Hardware List
I am picking up a trend that universal (dual 3.3v and 5v) PCI cards seem to more likely to work than 5v ones.
Especially with the PCI CMI 8738 versions.

So today i received the X5000.... and guess what... There is a SB live inserted by Amigakit ...Skateman wrote:As i am expecting my X5000 to arrive hopefully next week, i have already bought a second hand soundcard... just in case...
Its based on the Via Envy24 chipsets en will hopefully work, in case of CMI emergency..

Re: X5000 Proven to Work Hardware List
I'd like to see more keyboard compatibilities on this list.
I find it ridiculous though that a standard USB keyboard won't work always :/
I have a Dell KB522 here - it works in the Boot Menu and is identified in the OS, but not as a keyboard... so it doesn't work.
The USB mouse hooked to it works fine.
I'd rather have a single USB Keyboard/Mouse combo because I'm switching them between a PC and the Amiga like a KVM (my old KVM doesn't support 4K resolutions and waiting for the price to come down on them).
