Odyssey - YouTube - Offline Movies - system freezes
Re: Odyssey - YouTube - Offline Movies - system freezes
Today I have installed my old SoundBlaste Live 5.1 in X5000. And it works 100% with everything! So this means or my CMI card is not working (but with Avi movies are ok) or there is a bug in drivers since some years...

Re: Odyssey - YouTube - Offline Movies - system freezes
It is possible that we have cards with slightly different versions of something. (maybe the Asmedia 1083 bridge chip ?)

I had the CMI 8738 too and always trouble with this card .
I have change it to a ENVY24HT sound card and no more trouble with video play or something I guess the driver for the CMI have a bug .

@earlgrey
The problem is probably with the ASM 1083 bridge chips on the cards.
The revision 1 chips have serious prblems with DMA. The revison 3 chips work ok.
So anyone with an older card will have problems when playing audio plus video, Audio alone may work as in my case.

Re: Odyssey - YouTube - Offline Movies - system freezes
I had a CMI8738 in my X1000 for a long time without ever having a problem.
If someone could supply a "bad" CMI8738 card I would be happy to try it out.
If it turns out to be a problem with the PCI bridge then there's likely to be little that the driver can do to correct it, but at this point I think we need confirmation that there are "good" and "bad" cards out there.
Obviously I have been using the built-in HDAudio since the driver became available (or maybe just a little before then )
Just my offer to help. Assuming the X1000 also suffers from this mysterious bug.

I found out these cards use the ASM 1083 PCI-Bridge and there are 3 revisions like rev 1 , rev2 and rev3LyleHaze wrote:I had a CMI8738 in my X1000 for a long time without ever having a problem.

Hello,
unfortunately, no good news about this issue: It is definitely a hardware issue and not a fault of AmigaOS/AHI!
At the moment we are internally discussing all options and how to proceed with this, but whatever we do, these CMI soundcards with ASM1038, rev 1 bridge will never work without issues. So best advise we can give at the moment is to replace those cards with a different model.
Note that it seems to be pure coincidence, which revision of the ASMedia is on CMI8378 PCIe sound cards, so you should avoid those in general.
If you are unsure if your sound card suffers from the broken ASMedia bridge, use the attached test tool to find out. Just unpack and run.
