Supported graphics cards for Linux PPC

Yes, this hasn't changed. I think I may have been somewhat unclear. I'll try again:
Your statement that PPC BE Linux supports up to Northern Islands (= RV9xx) is correct. This is because it supports up to TeraScale 3 GPU architecture. What's a bit misleading though is to correspond this with the HD6xxx cards when ⅓ of HD7xxx cards are also supported, and even some of HD8xxx and R5 cards, because they use TeraScale GPUs.
The first sentence in my previous comment was more of a general statement that there is no general correspondence between card family (HDXxxx, Rx etc.), GPU family ("... Islands", R(V)Xxx) and GPU architecture (TeraScale 1-3, GCN1-5 etc.), of which only the last really determines (non-)support. This is illustrated by the fact that MorphOS supports not all of Northern Islands GPUs (namely only those of TeraScale 2 architecture, but not those of TeraScale 3).

> Next gfx generations needs radeonsi 3D driver, which not worked on Big endian.

Yes, this is because those GPU families starting with Southern Islands (= "R1000" internal name) use GCN architecture.

No, no and no :-)

I am looking for speedup my linux distros, so I am thinking about graphics card. As I have my X1000 mainly for AmigaOS, I need 1-slot secondary card.

According previous topics, the most powerful 1-slot gfx supported by Big Endian Powerpc linux should be Terascale 3 with Cayman chip: AMD FirePro V7900.

This card has 150W and uses the same graphics chip like the most powerful AMD Radeon HD 6970, which works fine for xeno74, so it probably will works too.
But this card has only 4x DisplayPort. I know that there are issues with DisplayPort + AmigaOS 4. What is the situation with ppc linux ? Do Displayport works?

Next fastest looks like:
ATI FirePro V7800: Cypress, DisplayPort, DVI, 150 W.
ATI FirePro V5800: Juniper, DisplayPort, DVI, 74 W.
AMD FirePro V5900: Cayman, DisplayPort, DVI, 75 W.
HD 6670: Turks, DVI, HDMI, VGA, 66 W - this one I have now.

Please try it. I don't have any experiences with DisplayPort with Linux PPC.

First I look to basement, if I found some card with DisplayPort.
If it be OK, I will try buy some cheaper FirePro.

Unfortunatelly only cards with Displayport I found was HD 7750 - i.e. Southern Island. I am not test it.
Now will I look for FirePro.

Roland wrote: Wed May 24, 2023 10:21 am Sailor asked on the X1000 Linux forum whether DP works with PPC Linux. I tested recently the DP port of a Radeon HD card, and I got picture out normally but audio was not available. Could someone who can post to the X1000 forum add a link to this answer to the thread there (viewtopic.php?f=35&t=4933).

BTW, quite an idiotic limitation that X5000 and X1000 owners cannot post to both fora! Could this be removed somehow...?

Thank you and Roland for information.
Sound is not important, I have eight computers connected to Behringer line-mixer.
My hearing is very far from musicman quality, but after use of line mixer + better repro even me hear the difference.

Thanks for info, next I will buy ATI FirePro V7800, and let know how it works in X1000.
