Hi All,

Here is the RC5 of kernel 5.14 for testing.

New:
Download: linux-image-5.14-rc5-X1000_X5000.tar.gz

Please note: Lscpu reports wrong values since the RC1 of kernel 5.13 on my X5000.

lscpu with the correct values before the RC1 of kernel 5.13:

Code: Select all

Architecture: ppc64
CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit
Byte Order: Big Endian
CPU(s): 4
On-line CPU(s) list: 0-3
Thread(s) per core: 1
Core(s) per socket: 4
Socket(s): 1
Model: 1.2 (pvr 8024 0012)
Model name: e5500
L1d cache: 128 KiB
L1i cache: 128 KiB
L2 cache: 2 MiB
L3 cache: 2 MiB
Vulnerability Itlb multihit: Not affected
Vulnerability L1tf: Not affected
Vulnerability Mds: Not affected
Vulnerability Meltdown: Not affected
Vulnerability Spec store bypass: Not affected
Vulnerability Spectre v1: Mitigation; __user pointer sanitization
Vulnerability Spectre v2: Mitigation; Branch predictor state flush
Vulnerability Srbds: Not affected
Vulnerability Tsx async abort: Not affected
lscpu with the wrong values since the RC1 of kernel 5.13:

Code: Select all

Architecture: ppc64
CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit
Byte Order: Big Endian
CPU(s): 4
On-line CPU(s) list: 0-3
Thread(s) per core: 1
Core(s) per socket: 1
Socket(s): 3
Model: 1.2 (pvr 8024 0012)
Model name: e5500
L1d cache: 128 KiB
L1i cache: 128 KiB
L2 cache: 2 MiB
L3 cache: 2 MiB
Vulnerability Itlb multihit: Not affected
Vulnerability L1tf: Not affected
Vulnerability Mds: Not affected
Vulnerability Meltdown: Not affected
Vulnerability Spec store bypass: Not affected
Vulnerability Spectre v1: Mitigation; __user pointer sanitization
Vulnerability Spectre v2: Mitigation; Branch predictor state flush
Vulnerability Srbds: Not affected
Vulnerability Tsx async abort: Not affected
Since the RC1 of kernel 5.13 (wrong values):

Core(s) per socket: 1
Socket(s): 3

Before (correct values):

Core(s) per socket: 4
Socket(s): 1

Through the wrong values, I can't use "-smp 4" with a virtual e5500 QEMU machine with KVM HV anymore. Further information: [FSL P50x0] KVM HV doesn't work anymore
"-smp 3" works with KVM HV.

I reported this issue to the kernel developers today. Link: [FSL P50x0] lscpu reports wrong values since the RC1 of kernel 5.13

Please test the kernels.

Hi All,

Here is the RC6 of kernel 5.14 for testing.

New:
Download: linux-image-5.14-rc6-X1000_X5000.tar.gz

Please note: The issue with the wrong lscpu values still exists. We have figured out that only P5040 SoCs are affected. I reported the new findings to the kernel developers today.

BTW, Debian 11 "Bullseye" has been released. It is also available as an unofficial port for PowerPC (32-bit and 64-bit).

Just tested RC3 through to RC6 on my Fienix. All booted and worked fine.

The testing kernels also revealed a glitch in my boot manager. Because the testing kernels share the same name with the full kernels the kernels need to be overwritten. But the modules are different. Because of this a testing kernel really needs to be purged before hand or the modules will be left behind. And need to be removed by hand. I'll fix this in another update.

However, it does allow me to quickly install a kernel for testing, if I do them all in a row. I just need to set the default kernel to the same one installed. Install an archive over the top and replace it. Then exit, reboot and load Linux again. Like I did here on Fienix so this glitch is convenient for now. :-D
