Z shell

Post by xeno74 »

Z shell

The Z shell (Zsh) is a Unix shell that can be used as an interactive login shell and as a command interpreter for shell scripting. Zsh is an extended Bourne shell with many improvements, including some features of Bash, ksh, and tcsh.

You can install it with apt install zsh. If you use Fienix then please download the following packages and install them with dpkg -i zsh*.

Downloads: You can configure the Z shell as your default shell with the command chsh -s /usr/bin/zsh <username>.

If you want to use a nice prompt then copy the following .zshrc file to your home directory.

Code: Select all

# ~/.zshrc file for zsh interactive shells.
# see /usr/share/doc/zsh/examples/zshrc for examples

setopt autocd # change directory just by typing its name
#setopt correct # auto correct mistakes
setopt interactivecomments # allow comments in interactive mode
setopt magicequalsubst # enable filename expansion for arguments of the form ‘anything=expression’
setopt nonomatch # hide error message if there is no match for the pattern
setopt notify # report the status of background jobs immediately
setopt numericglobsort # sort filenames numerically when it makes sense
setopt promptsubst # enable command substitution in prompt
