Ubuntu 14.04 and Radeon R7 250

Please note: Hardware 3D acceleration doesn't work with the Radeon HD7xxx series and above (Radeon SI). You need a Radeon HD6xxx series or below.

I use Ubuntu 16.04 with a Radeon HD 7770. I knew there will be no hardware 3D acceleration but ... it also crashes with software rendering with an illegal instruction in "swrast.dri". What do you recommend? Do you think upgrading Mesa will help? I use the original version 18.0.5.
At least, it would be nice to have 2D acceleration and a working 3D software rendering on Radeon SI cards.

Hi Corto,

Unfortunately, I don't have any experiences with the Radeon HD7770. I only use NI and older graphics cards for Linux PowerPC.

Does glxgears work?

Skateman can use 3D software acceleration with his Radeon R7 250 on ubuntu MATE 16.04.6 LTS.

I asked to him but at the same time I updated Mesa like you described at viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2137&hilit=radeonsi&start=120

... and that works!

Of course it is slow (glxgears runs at 24.5 FPS).

But the system does not seem to be less responsive.
