Hi All,

I released the RC3 of kernel 5.7 for the X1000 and X5000 today.

New:
Download: linux-image-5.7-rc3-X1000_X5000.tar.gz

Screenshot of Fienix Soar PowerPC with the RC3 of kernel 5.7 on an A-EON AmigaOne X5000/40 as host and as virtual QEMU/KVM-HV guest (e5500 CPU):

@Skateman
Unfortunately I see more than 2 ethernet ports with the RC3 and Darren's patch on my X5000/40. Maybe you have an other result on your X5000/20.

@All
Please test the kernels.

Thanks,
Christian

Hi Christian,

I am back after long time ( many work outside and X1000 PSU+battery replacement)
On weekend I installed on my X 1000: Fienix, OpenSuse Tumbleweed and Fedora 27. Already I had Debian 8 and MintPPC 11.

Your latest kernel 5.7-rc4 works on all these linuxes ( with radeon si, no accel).

Now I want to install MintPPC (http://mintppc.nl/), Ubuntu 16.04 and Debian 10/Sid.
I have two questions now.
Whal linux ppc64 distro is today the most suitable for everyday work? With some perspective. I am still using Debian 8, which is outdated.

And second question - I tried to install Debian 10 yesterday without success.
I used initrd.gz from official Debian10 / grub (https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/port ... TINST1.iso) for ramdisk
and your A1X1000 kernel 5.5 for booting. Partman hangs with error Cannot load modules.
The same was with alternate Debian10 / yaboot (https://repo.powerprogress.org/debian/i ... INST-2.iso)

During installation process I made empty dir /lib/modules/5.5.11_A-EON_X1000_Nemo and it don't work also.
Then I modified original initrd.gz - added here all modules /lib/modules/5.5.11_A-EON_X1000_Nemo/*.

Every time the same error - cannot load modules.

Please, can you give me some advice how to modify initrd.gz to work on X1000? Or hint to some docs or wiki?
Many thanks

I use openSUSE Tumbleweed PPC64 and Fedora PPC64. I don't know if they have any perspective.

Unfortunately I don't have any experiences with the latest Debian installation programs. The old installation program had looked for the installation CD and looked for matching modules. Since the Debian CD wasn't meant for the AmigaOne X1000, it had not find any appropriate modules and asked you whether you want to continue without loading modules. We had answered “Yes” here.

Yes, these exactly I installed. Thanks, it works out of the box.
;-) perspective is allways like divination from crystal ball ;-)

Continue without modules doesn't work with new installer. But you help me - I put the modules to initrg.gz only (which is not works). I will try add them to .iso also.
