No video

Post by kilaueabart »

I was on Timberwolf in OS4 trying to look at a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8feDoQEEWk) on how to use bolt cutters. A message informed me that I was using too old a version of Firefox (!) and should upgrade.

Nonetheless, to my astonishment, the video started playing, without sound. About half way through, the machine crashed.

As long as I was going to have to make a fresh start anyway, I decided to use the real Firefox in my Ubuntu. This time, "Couldn't get any video. Please report it here." But after a bit I did get audio! (I tried to repeat it just now, but no success with the audio part this time.)

Anyway, is there a good reason that isn't working here in Firefox?

Hi Kilaueabart,

Sorry for the late answer. Could you install ViewTube, please?

ViewTube is a JavaScript application that allows viewing videos from video sharing web sites without needing to install Adobe Flash Player. ViewTube removes the embedded Flash content, searches on the video page for videos and embeds them in the classic way. Videos can be watched with a video plugin or with HTML5's video player. A download option is also available. To work in Firefox, IceWeasel, IceCat, TenFourFox, Abrowser, Seamonkey it is required to install on of Greasemonkey or Scriptish add-ons.
I have installed Scriptish. And then I have added the ViewTube script to Scriptish. :-) ViewTube requires the VLC player. You can install it with Synaptic.
It works very well even in HD. :-)

Have a lot of fun with ViewTube.

Rgds,

Christian

The video works well with ViewTube. Even in fullscreen.

Thank you. I finally got around to it. I hadn't seen Synaptic for years, when OS4 got to the point where I didn't seem to need Debian anymore, and I didn't even remember what it was. It was nice to see it again!
