Alpha 4 has installed now...Testing... Has same issue with screen going blank (or black) for about 20 seconds then desktop loads.
OK, good to know. Thank you for testing.

Hypex,

Have you seen any error messages because of the delay in the log files? (Xorg.0.log, Xorg.1.log, lightdm.log etc in /var/log)

Cheers,
Christian

No I hadn't checked. Would be better if the Log viewer was updated for systemd.

Strange.Tonight I didn't notice as much of a delay. But I did find these interesting snippets.

x.org repeats this:

Code: Select all

(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument
lightdm/seat0-greeter.log:

Code: Select all

(lightdm-gtk-greeter:1624): Gtk-WARNING **: 02:25:30.609: Drawing a gadget with negative dimensions. Did you forget to allocate a size? (node menubar owne
r GreeterMenuBar)

** (lightdm-gtk-greeter:1624): WARNING **: 02:25:30.813: [PIDs] Failed to terminate process #1666: No such process

** (lightdm-gtk-greeter:1624): WARNING **: 02:25:30.813: [PIDs] Failed to terminate process #1663: No such process
I found this in kern.log:

I just checked and yes I have! :!:

Tonight I had a random drive issue. Kernel couldn't boot. Had trouble on SATA link. Not seen that in a while. Hope my drives are okay. Heard a faint fan like sound as it's trying to read it. Rebooted and it worked. OS4 is still on HDD but Linux is on SSD. Boot loader read from HDD with no trouble.

But I've noticed another issue in the kern log and have been aware of it lately. Mate desktop components keep crashing. I found there are some updates but unfortunately I can't install them. My packages are broken. I have all the Fienix repos setup AFAIK. The Fienix site doesn't give much info and doesn't list the repos from what I can see. For my most modern distro my Fienix is lacking and it makes me wonder why. For example gparted is missing and I can't install it. This is very unusual. That's a very common package but it's missing from my Fienix. I can't figure this thing out. :?:

Could you also please check the alpha1 because of the desktop loading delay and the kernel error messages?

Hypex,

Does your desktop also load without any delay if you use the alpha5?

Thanks,
