Debian Squeeze Web Browser on X1000 do YouTube?

Post by amigasociety »

Curious if the Debian Squeeze on the X1000 has a web browser that does YouTube videos?

What web browser is it that installs or is usable for this version of Debian Squeeze?

How about Skype? Any chance linux based Skype works on it?

Never tried skype under Debian Squeeze but have used a number of web browsers. I 've tested the following browsers under Debian Squeeze on the AmigaONE X1000

Epiphany (default browser) - plays YouTube videos
IceWeasel (what Firefox is called under Squeeze - again installed by default) plays YouTube videos
Aroa - (light weight Firefox variant) - sort of plays Youtube videos (badly)
Galeon (Gnome based Mozilla - play Youtube videos OK
Iceape - plays YouTube videos

Trevor

UPDATE: tested a few other browsers which also seemed to work OK (Midori, Kazehakase, rekonq)

Would be nice to know if Skype for Linux and a USB webcam are both supported by Debian Squeeze on the X1000. That is one program we won't have for OS4.x any time soon (that I know of).

A Linux PPC version of Skype has never existed. (Skype is not opensource)

With https://imo.im/ website you can send and receive text messages (it supports audio and video chat through the browser's flash plugin)

I second this, just for chatting on skype its a great way to use skype on OS4.1.

I blame the OP, who mentioned it in his post. I should have looked for it myself though, before asking if it worked. :D
