Broken motherboard

Post by musa »

Hi all
My amigaX1000 motherboard is broken. When I turn on the power, there are lights in LEDs 1 and 2 for 1 second and then the power disappears. Afterwards, nothing happens if I try again.
If I wait a few hours I can turn the power on but again there is only light in LEDs 1 and 2 for 1 second. I
f I remove all pci / pci-e cards (graphics cards and network cards) and turn on the power there is no light in LEDs 1 and 2 but in 3, 4 and 5. It stays stable but without graphics cards I do not know how far the machine has on the startup.
Does anyone have experience sending a Board for repair?
How is the procedure and where should it be sent to.
Does anyone know about the price of such a repair.
I'm a little afraid that my amiga time is over. :(
Hope someone can give input to the above.
Thank you in advance
Peter

Do you have a serial connection available?
Serial output could help greatly in such a situation.

Since you still have lit LEDs, I wouldn't jump to saying the board is broken.
It looks more like one of the plugged in cards are shorted/broken.

I'm not on my machine, but you could try to plug in one card after the other (only one at a time) and see which one (or which combination of them) is causing the issue with the LEDs.

The go from there..

Hi,

Check also your sata cables, unpluged them and re plug them. Power off your PSU and push to power button of the case to discharge the motherboard.
Power on your PSU again and then the case's power.
Check also the coin battery.

Hi all Thanks for replying.
I have tested all my cards one at a time. The power supply is brand new. coin battery has been replaced and is brand new.
I will try to disassemble all hard disks and DVD-ROM and then put a pci card in to see if sata has anything to do with it. I do not have the option of serial output.
I will return once I have done these tests

Hi all
Now I only get power on for 1 sec. and lights in sections 1 and 2.
Afterwards I have to wait 15 min. to be able to try again. I have not had lights in LEDs 3,4 and 5 this time.
I think that if it will not start without pci card then there is no reason to test with pci card.

Maybe there is something broken on the Nemo board but I am not a hardware expert.
  • LED3 SB600 power good (PLD controlled)
  • LED4 CPU power good (PLD controlled)
  • LED5 SB600 running (PLD controlled)

Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.

I think you're right Christian.
I fear a little that the cost of such a repair will be more than I can afford. Is it correct that Amigakit is located in England?
I'm really unsure what to do And also sorry if that means I'm out of the game.
Have a nice day

Hi,

Is the motherboard working without any HDD or sata cables connected?
It could also be a faulty ram stick!

Xavier.

Hi Petrol
thanks for reply.
I have tested with everything decoupled except a ram block. Then switch to the second ram block (same result.) After 1 second, the power is turned off and only after 10 to 15 min. can i try to start again but with the same result
have a nice day
