X1000 acting up (not quite solved)

Posted: Sat May 10, 2014 6:47 pm

I'm having an issue with my X1000. It started today. I booted it as usual, started Cubic IDE, and then left it for some time doing other things. Then, I suddenly heard the boot up sound; the X1000 had spontaneously rebooted. I thought it might be a temporary glitch, but after yet another while, it just rebooted (or rather froze) again and I was left with a blank screen. In this state I can't reboot with the hardware reset button -- only the power off button works.

I managed to get the serial debugging working, and now have some output. It boots okay, and I can use for about 7 minutes, and then the screen turns black, and the serial debug says:

Code: Select all

[HELO][DRAM][HELO][DRAM][HELO][DRAM][HELO][DRAM]SDRAM: ECC off, Non-ECC DIMM used on channel 0.
and continues with that for quite a while. And I all can do is to shut it down.

* I've set the debuglevel to 10 in AmigaOS, but it doesn't seem to be a software causing it.
* I've dusted the mainboard off with air duster, removed the RAM stick and cleaned the sockets (and it wasn't terribly dusty to start with)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Okay, I changed the battery, only to find it spontaneously rebooting once more, but now running ok for half an hour atleast.
And now the date is off... it says "Torsdag 2014-04-10 21.21.56", and before is was correct ("Lördag 2014-05-10 19.31.46").

This is so strange.

See the trouble shooting tips at http://wiki.amigaos.net/index.php/AmigaOne_X1000

You may also want to try opening a support ticket with AmigaKit.

The date being off could easily have happened while changing the battery.

Try setting the correct date again and doing a "setclock save", if it doesn't go off again, that's probably not part of the issue.

Best regards,

Niels

Funny you should mention that mine had started doing exactly the same thing.

I took my Radeon 6770 out and put my Radeon 7870 in.
I removed my rtl8139 and put in a new one.
I removed my soundcard and switched to the onboard sound.
I also removed the ram cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser and gave the thing a really good blasting in all the nooks and crannies with compressed air.

Seem to boot 1st time every time again at the moment.

One of the above was causing it but as its stable again I think I'll leave it alone for a while.

[HELO][DRAM][HELO][DRAM][HELO][DRAM][HELO][DRAM]SDRAM: ECC off, Non-ECC DIMM used on channel 0.h
Maybe a bad memory stick, "channel 0" could mean DIMM1.

Oh, yeah, sorry. Should've said something, and thought I did, but it seems I solved with the battery change. Even though it didn't seem like that at first, my X1000 now hapiily starts and run for hours.

Thank you for all your suggestions!

Not even 4 months later my x1000 has been doing the same again.

CFE output:

Code: Select all

X1000 S?ndag 2014-08-31 16.35.18
B:Missed IRQ! diff = 16
[HELO][DRAM]SDRAM: ECC off, Non-ECC DIMM used on channel 0.
[RELO][HELO][DRAM]SDRAM: ECC off, Non-ECC DIMM used on channel 0.
[RELO][HELO][DRAM]SDRAM: ECC off, Non-ECC DIMM used on channel 0.
...
The "X1000 S?ndag" line is printed last in my user-startup. The "B: Missed IRQ!" happens sometimes -- haven't found any pattern. And the after reboot (I assume after reboot, given the "[HELO]"), the same rows keep repeating. I did not reboot manually, it was done spontaneously.

Has anyone else had the same issues? Is it the battery again? Is it likely that the battery runs out just after four months? (I haven't tried switching yet, will see if there's any changes in CFE settings or something.)

I doubt it's the battery, a check with a voltmeter should show 3V or more. I suggest you grab memtester off Depot & run it overnight to test your memory. We had one other user with a flakey system & memtester found one bad memory stick, he replaced it & fixed. Memtester takes a long time to check memory, so run it overnight, you only need 1 pass to check it/them.
